In Search of the Creeper Creature

The evening was uneventful for Nym and Ollin, and Ollin woke Nym up at dawn to continue their search for the creeper. The night before, he had made a quick trip to the houses nearest his, warning others of the danger and asking for their help in searching for other vines and helping to make sure that the threat was eliminated, so as Nym got dressed, another 5 people showed up to continue the hunt.

The group headed out, and within 45 minutes, Ollin had led them to the place where the vine had been the day before. The group spread out to search the area for any signs where the vine had come from and what sort of creature had been infested with the vine to carry it here in the first place.

Nym: Please give me either a knowledge: Nature, Survival, or Perception check.

  1. Nym decides to investigate the vine itself, and prods around in the dirt, looking for the remains of the "seed" creature. In her search, she finds what appears to be a small slab of meat, only the leg of a rabbit or opposum, and it is obviously cut by a knife of some sort. The rest of the creature is not there. Much of the area around the vine is trampled by the squirrels, bore, and bear that had already been encountered, and there are no other noticeable tracks in the area.

After 30 minutes of investigation, the group gets together and discusses their findings. It is decided that the threat has been eliminated for the moment, though how the leg of an infected rabbit managed to make it to this part of the forest is a mystery. Ollin thanks everyone for their help, and the group begins their journey back home just before 9 AM.

  2. Before coming to Ollin's cottage, the others dispersed into the forest to return to their respective homes. When Nym and her father returned to the cottage, they were greeted by Vort, Nesme, and Pipper.

Ollin smiled at Nym as she ran around with the three animals. "You must finish your journey, child." He said to her. She stopped and nodded. "I will travel with you," said Ollin, and Nym nodded. They walked inside together and began getting ready for their journey to Silverymoon.

Nym rigged up one of Nesme's saddlebags for Pipper to ride in while Ollin readied his black mare and Nesme for riding. Around 10am, they left the cottage. Vort trotted alongside the horses while Pipper ran up ahead and waited for the others then ran again and waited again. After a time, Pipper grew tired, and Nym placed him in the saddlebag. He fell asleep on a blanket Nym had placed on the bottom of the bag.

Around 2pm they stopped to eat for a bit. By 5pm, they could see the Rauvin, and by 6:30 they had crossed the river.

Ollin lead them to an old friend's house, an apothecary, whom Ollin had known since childhood. When the arrived, an old elf with cloudy eyes opened the door. "Ollin, my old friend!" he said in Elvish, smiling. The man did not look at Ollin; he was blind.

"Rovanth!" said Ollin, embracing the man gently. "This is my daughter, Nym," said Ollin.

"It is lovely to meet you, child," replied Rovanth.

Nym shook Rovanth's hand, saying, "Hail and well met, friend."

After chatting for a few minutes, Rovanth invited them to stay for the night. Nym led the horses and Vort to the stables. The old wolf ate a bit and then immediately went to sleep. The horses ate and seemed content. After noting the animals were doing well, she carried the sleeping fox pup into the house.

Rovanth's home was filled with interesting bottles of different herbs and medicines, and Nym enjoyed looking at all these items. She was able to identify most. They ate a modest meal after which the old elf retired to his room for the night. Ollin tended the fire in the living room a bit and then he settled down in a chair for the night while Nym laid down on a blanket on the floor. Nym drifted off to sleep without much trouble, pleased to be so close to her goal in Silverymoon.

  3. You notice nothing out of the ordinary in the herbs and medicines.
