A Murder of Cats

While the group continued talking Beranhond bent down to Tigrisclawu.
"I need you to go and find as many street-wise or tough alley cats in this city. Tell them that a great attack is going to happen and that there will be plenty of food rewards when the killing is done. Meet back here in two hours with as many as you can find."
"What are you planning?"
"I am not sure yet, but I think if we are going to cleanse the sewers we can use whatever forces we can get."
Tigrisclawu nodded, "Go with Narath." He said, before bounding out the door and out into the streets.

  1. Can I get a "Handle Animal" check from Tigrisclawu to see how well the persuasion goes?

  2. Yes, that will take a moment as I have to finish Tigrisclawu... doobedoobedoo

  3. Handle animal:
    Roll(1d20)+2:
    18,+2
    Total:20

  4. For recruiting cats: First off, it's really weird that Tigrisclawu is recruiting them, since normal cats can't talk. However, I will suspend that disbelief for the purposes of this. Hmm. How about this system:

Every hour of recruiting gains the following:
    Roll results: 1-5: 1 cat
    6-10: 2 cats
    11-15: 3 cats
    16-20: 4 cats
    21+: 5 cats

I would say that cats being rather independent, more than 5 an hour seems kind of crazy, to me.

  5. Cats do communicate with each other, and they do form colonies, they do communicate hierarchy, and they do form hunting parties:

Etc. The reason Tigrisclawu is being sent is that he will be communicating with the other cats on their own terms and can communicate things such as 'join for food' or to 'organize a hunting party.' Mind you, it isn't human communication, but it is much more useful than if Beranclawu was trying to convince the other cats to join him.

  6. Okay, I stand corrected. So Tigrisclawu is recruiting a hunting party?

I see the numbers at 2-50 in a regular colony, based on food availability. Assuming the rats are very prevalent, I would say closer to 50 is more accurate for this area. However, because of the flood, I will say that some drowning and such has happened, so 40 is going to be the norm now.

New system: for every 1 you roll, you convince an additional 2 cats. So your 20 gets 40 cats. You can't get more than 50 in a roll, and we will re-evaluate the numbers of this for any other instances where this might come up.

  7. Also, the cats that you convince to join you are under my control once you get them, except for those you choose to use "Handle Animal" on yourself. They will most likely follow Tigrisclawu, but fine control of their actions will be very unlikely.

  8. Cat Colonies aren't like most social animals. Being independent animals their colonies are based more along independent hunters who happen to get together. They do recognize bosses and dominance, but Tigrisclawu will probably be able to affect a pretty dominant show of force (as it noticeable from the roll). I am calling it a 'hunting party' because that is something the cat would understand, that and there will be plenty of rats for them to attack.

Yes, I understand you being in control of the cats, humans herding cats is impossible so I doubt Beranhond would have any say in it.
