A walk in the kitchen

Beranhond, on hearing this news, decided to take a quick visit to the kitchens. Sauntering on over he opened the door, approached the cook and said.
"My sincere thanks for your meal - you all created such a delicious spread for us."

The chef thanked him heartily and gave him a few samples of the next meal. They discussed recipes and dish preparation, with Beranhond talking about his time on the farm and old family recipes. Eventually, after a few moments when he could tell that the chef had found a kindred spirit, he started discussing the mansion, its designs, and the layout of the kitchen, before getting onto to a discussion of the owner. The chef told him that...

  1. How long are you talking to the guy?

  2. the whole conversation is only about ten minutes - I am going off of Beranhond's diplomacy and background for them to connect. I am going to modify the wording a bit though to reflect that.

  3. Also, Talathel and Darvin, how long are you going to spend in the bathroom?

  4. 10 minutes isn't that long, but I will let you know what you can find out in that time. Could you provide me a quick list of what you're trying to get out of the guy, time permitting?

  5. the 10 minutes was just the lead up conversation, that doesn't include anything about the owner. Beranhond would be willing to chat with him for at least another 10-15 minutes to get solid info - but that will depend on how much the chef is interested.

    - who is he, how he makes his money
    - how the house is still doing so well in the midst of the tsunami
    - personality traits

  7. The chef tells you that he is Hring Darkeyes, and he's a wealthy merchant, renowned for a special knack for knowing what will be needed and when. He's made his fortune doing just that, selling water to those in a drought, selling weapons to those fighting a war, and selling warm clothing in harsh winters.

The house is still doing very well because this area of the city wasn't hit that hard by the earthquake somehow. They felt it, for sure, but it just rattled a bit and then subsided. The tsunami was the bigger worry, and thank Lathander the place was able to hold. It must be solidly built.

Hring is pretty secretive, he keeps to himself a lot, but word has it that he has or had a family around somewhere, though nobody knows where they are now. The cook has never met them, in his 4 years of working at the mansion.

There you go. That took about 10 minutes to get all that info.
