Game Time...

Darvin looks at Talathel and starts signaling to him that there is a trap on the floor. He makes it clear that the only way to avoid it is to hug the right hand wall. He turns back to Hring and does the same. Hring then sends the message back to everyone else. Once the game of charades is over Darvin makes his way over to Rhora, avoiding the trap of course, and swings with his cutlass.

What do you gotta roll to hit this bitch?

  1. Hey, she's a badass. Do you expect it to be easy to hit her?

  2. I was hoping so. You know so we can FINALLY GET OUT OF THE SEWERS!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Well, I can understand that.

However, she is still badass, because I feel that anything worth doing requires a badass that you have to defeat at the end in order to prove yourself worthy.

    (barely)

Once there he moves behind the distracted rat queen, pulls the hood back and off her head and slices with his sword.

    If you don't allow that...

Once across the trap he grabs a heavy chair, moves behind the rat queen and smashes it across her head.

  6. Beranhond:
I will allow the attempt to take off the hood, but as a note, Darvin is at 4 o'clock relative to Rhora, and you are at 8 o'clock. I will say that to take off her hood, that is a DC 12 Dex check. This is a free action, so you may attack as well, and your attack apparently hit.

Also, what's the final +2 from? and why didn't you just make it +4?

I didn't just do +4 because that would have been too easy.

+2 for melee combat, +2 for flanking.

  8. Talathel tip toed his way around the trap, using his acrobatic prowress to avoid it...

While he made it, it was barely. "Perhaps I should stop thinking about the rum," he said, forgetting that no one could hear anything.

He reached for the cube, but realizing he had to say words to make it work, there was no sense in using it now. He took out his kama and charged at the queen. A direct charge may not normally be wise, but considering that Beranhond was taking off her hood and she seemed dazed by it, he figured why not?

    Attack with the kama...

Talathel thought he imagined a bit of fur being clipped from the queen's body, but he doubted that.

  9. Was Beranhond able to lift the sound barrier?

    ReplyDelete
  10. To answer your question:

Beranhond, in an oddly smooth display of sword work, snatches back the hood of the cloak and severs the fabric. It rips free in his hand and be backs away.
"Your doom awaits you rat-bitch!" As he says this her head turns and she blocks Darvin's attack, but can't escape Beranhond's sword that slashes across her back. (that was the previous attack) Suddenly, sound returns to the room and Beranhond sees Nym's magic missile slam into the rat-queen's body.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Rhora reacts quickly to Beranhond's attack on her cloak, quickly twisting her short sword around in an attempt to knock his weapon from his hand. She easily knocks the blade from his hand, and it clangs on the ground behind him. That done, she transforms into her hybrid form, growing fur and a snout, but remaining still Rhora, and wearing the same clothes and holding her short sword.

    Players, it is your turn.

  14. Slightly bemused and quite impressed with Beranhond's swordmanship, Gurkirat began to toot on his clarinet. A strange chromatic and jazzy melody ripped through the chamber. The syncopated rhythms assaulted the ears of the ratriarch in an attempt to razzle, dazzle, and confound. She didn't even bat an eyelash or wiggle an ear. The bard wailed harder but to obvious futility. His riff ended oddly with a squeak that admitted irritation and defeat.

It slammed into her and knocked her to the ground.
Beranhond, for fun, spit at her.

  18. As the doorway cleared, Grumbleshanks ushered the other henchies inside. "Don't forget to leap." He reminded them. He ducked in himeslf just before the last two, his own goons entered. After they were inside, he swung the door closed. And posted his two crossbow wielding goons in front of the door.

    ReplyDelete
  19. That's not entirely true... we still have the man to worry about. Gurkirat's two henchmen stay back to worry over him.

Before he stepped through the door, Grumbleshanks gave his glowstick to the henchmen and advised, "If you hear squeaks, pound on that door, and drag that sack of barnacles in." He looked to make sure the sock was secured in the man's mouth then ducked inside the chamber to close the door.

If that won't work, Grumbleshanks opens the door and sends two grunts out with the same instructions. Two shooters are still guarding the door.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Beranhond:
There are no minor actions in 3.5. In 3.5, picking up your weapon is a move action.

    "You're a whore," Talathel responds.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Beranhond:
Currently, you still do not have your sword in hand. That is a move action, and your last turn, you used a move action to pick up the chair and an attack action to throw it.

    The NPC's turn:
Hring, Starks, Arngrim, Thjodolf, Lofa, and Aldaho all scramble into the room, as Grumbleshanks' instructed. Hring goes first, and makes it fine, running up and attacking Rhora with his rapier alongside Talathel. He strikes, dealing a grievous wound to Rhora's side as she lies at his feet. (+4 to melee attacks against prone targets.) Starks does the same, but stops on the other side of Beranhond and fires with his crossbow. He misses. (-4 to ranged attacks against prone targets.) Arngrim runs up behind Talathel and Darvin and fires his crossbow, but misses as well. Thjodolf tries the same, and almost hits Hring instead. Lofa went next and, with the grace of a drunken water buffalo, stepped on the pressure plate, which sunk into the floor, while a dart shot out from the wall to the side. The dart hit Lofa squarely in the neck, and though he kept running into the room, he seemed to stagger a bit, as if he was a bit woozy. 2 hp dmg, 1 Con dmg

  30. Talathel:
Your kama can be used to make trip attacks. You basically make an attack with your kama to trip her, and set the "Versus?" field on the "Combat 2" spreadsheet to "CMD" instead of "AC", and you can see if you knock her down again. The attack won't deal any damage, but it will make her easier to hit. (All melee attacks would get +4) And if you knock her down and somebody else does something to keep her there, she could be quite easy pickings.

All ranged attacks take -4 when there are allies engaged in melee combat with the person you are attacking, so you will have +4+1-4=+1 overall to your attacks. The natural 20 will hit no matter what, though, so you will hit there, at least.

(8 lethal damage, Talathel.) Starks and Thjodolf miss, but Aldaho gets an amazing shot off and hits Rhora square in the right breast, causing her to reel in pain.

Did you both include the +2 from Hring distracting her? That may be where the +6 came from, Beranhond.

    Talathel:
As for the grapple, read this:

    http://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering---final/combat---final#TOC-Grapple

Basically, you just roll your Combat Maneuver Bonus (CMB) against your opponents' Combat Maneuver Defense (CMD). If you "hit", then you have grappled her, and both of you have the grappled condition. Because you have Improved Grapple, you get +2 to grapple when you try it.
