Almost Home: May 27

Although Nym was anxious to head into the forest, she went with the man to his mill to help him unload his grain. The man assumed she was an elf of the forest from her paints, and Nym was in no rush to correct him. He was a pleasant fellow, and his eight children, all between 12 and 22, helped unload as well. The man joked that Nym would make his eldest son a fine wife with her pleasant nature and helpful attitude. Nym laughed at this, but the man's son blushed, obviously finding Nym attractive. The man offered Nym dinner and a place to stay for the night, but Nym politely declined.

After Nesme had had a rest and a bit to eat and drink, she returned to the road around 5:30. She knew the old paths to her father's cottage well, and she quickly determined it would take about an hour on horseback to reach home. On foot, she could cut straight through the forest, which would only take her around 30 minutes, but with Nesme, she had to stay away from the thickest undergrowth, which for once slowed her down. She was excited to be back in her forest.

  1. As she traveled, she started seeing more and more recognizable landmarks, though they were all a bit off from what she expected. That tree had fallen, that stone had more moss than she remembered, this bend in the path went farther out of the way than she remembered, and that small clearing was still wooded when she last traveled this path. Everything seemed slightly out of proportion, as well, as most of her memories had been as a small child, and the differences between her memories and the reality that was her growth into a young woman caused an unwelcome knot to form in her stomache. A lot had happened since she was last here.

The path was a bit more overgrown than she remembered it being, but that could be that it had been a very wet spring and her father or the other couple families sharing the path had not yet had time to tend to it. Still, there were enough happy memories of her youth to keep her spirits high.

She came upon the first house on the road, with its thatched roof and log walls. The thatch was in need of a bit of repair, and there were several chinks in the insulation between logs, but the house seemed exactly as she remembered it.

    My Math:
Age 15: Nym leaves Olostin's Hold for Silverymoon.
Age 18: Nym leaves Silverymoon for Thay.
Age 19: Nym arrives at Thay.
Late Age 19: Nym escapes Thay.
Age 24: Nym arrives in Baldur's Gate.

It's been 9 years since you left home, really, though you may have visited a bit and seen your father until you were 18.

(Your character sheet say 19, but your background has 5 years of traveling after Thay before you reached Baldur's Gate. Which is it?)

  2. Your math is off... by a lot, actually.

8: She begins schooling in Silverymoon.
12-13: She and Morna tag along with some older students going to Thay
    14: Escape Thay
14-19: Wandering away from Thay toward the coast
19: Nym arrives in Baldur's Gate

  3. You've adjusted that a lot, then. The word doc you sent me originally had you leaving for schooling in Silverymoon at 15. No worries. I will use this revised timeline. Thanks.

  4. You also called it Olstin's Hold in the word doc. :)

  5. Just sayin'. :D I would like it if you would describe your arrival at home, as far as the surroundings and your house, but let me take over for a short bit after. Thanks.
