As the three adventurers approached Silverymoon, they noticed a bit of increase in the traffic. There were some merchants and other travelers, indicating that the town was near. Talathel was grateful to see them, if only because it meant that, in theory, the journey was half-way done and he could return to the ship and Lailsan. He didn't like the way the two had parted. It seemed rushed. He hoped she would understand.
Talathel hoped that they could find Nym soon. Depending on how the reunion went, he may think about riding back towards Watersdeep by himself. But, they'd have to find Nym.
"Darvin," Talathel began, almost cautiously.
"Have you a plan to locate your fair maiden?"
"A plan? Well, we should ask around the local taverns and inns. Someone's bound to have noticed her. We'll find her, I have a feeling." Darvin responded to Talathel's question. Although, he admitted to himself that his plan was not without faults. Darvin would never admit it but he had left the "Lady Narath" without thinking this whole adventure through.
ReplyDeleteAs they ride closer to town, Talathel decides to act out Darvin's "plan".
ReplyDeleteHe rides up next to a half-elf merchant. "Excuse me, I was wondering if you had seen a half-elf girl come riding through here recently. Maybe a day or so ago. She's younger, has brown hair was riding a black and white horse."
Diplomacy

(I figure I should try to be diplomatic, since I'm assuming I'm talking to a half-elf and they and elves don't see eye to eye.)
Diplomacy is the right skill to use when gathering information, usually, so that was a good call.
ReplyDeleteThe merchant answered with a shake of his head. "I have not seen your friend. I'm sorry. I've seen many younger half-elf maidens on this road, but not one on a black and white horse recently. Would you be interested in some alchemist's fire? Or perhaps some holy water? I specialize in alchemical substances. Surely, there is something you need."
Talathel looks at Darvin skeptically. "I think we're good for now. We're just looking for our friend Nym."
ReplyDeleteWhy are you looking at Darvin skeptically?
ReplyDeleteThe merchant, unshaken by this flat refusal, carried on as if the sale might still happen later. "Alright. I could tell her where to find you if I see her, if I knew where you'd be."
I considered the merchant's offer to be directed at both of us, and my skeptical look towards Darvin is indicating that Talathel doesn't think we have the need to buy alchemical substances. I've never considered Talathel to be the type to rely on that sort of thing, and he probably doesn't think to highly of it.
ReplyDeleteTo the merchant: "Well, we're just now getting into town." What time is it, would we have time to look for Nym now or is it inn-finding time? "Can you recommend an inn with a stable and decent rates?"
Darvin and Talathel:
ReplyDeleteOkay, rather than roleplay every single person you come across, I'm going to have you both roll diplomacy for gather information. Using Darvin's strategy of going from bar to bar, I would say that you can gather info for up to 4 hours at the bars of Silverymoon. It's about 7 PM, currently. Do you want to find an inn first or start your search immediately?
The merchant tells you about several inns and stables that you should check into.
