On the Road Again

Darvin opened the door after Talathel knocked and headed down to the stables. "Good morning you cheeky bastard." He cheerily said to the elf as he walked by. Talathel looked a little stunned to see Darvin up and moving at this hour, but Darvin had an important task at hand. The woman he was smitten with had run off without so much as a goodbye. All she had left was a hastily scribbled note and a promise that she would find him eventually.

Eventually wasn't going to work for Darvin. He had been with his fair share of women in the past, he had been quite the ladies man back in Secomber, in fact that very reason is why he was on this adventure at all. But after all the women that Darvin had been with, he had never felt like this about any of them. There was no time in his past when he would have dropped everything just to make sure she would come back. Darvin had been pondering since they left what he was going to do when he finally found her. He, admittedly, hadn't really thought this adventure through. He would never admit that, of course, but he did know it.

Darvin pounded on Thjodolf's door as he walked by,

"Get up you great oaf! It's time to go." Darvin said good naturedly.

When Darvin got downstairs he saw Thjodolf already standing there waiting for him.

"Oh. You beat me down here you large beast." Darvin said as he walked by Thjodolf and smacked him on the butt, much like a coach of the Faerun national pastime, futbhel.

Talathel was right about the ride being long, past Yarter there was no town on the map until they reached Everlund. Darvin estimated they would reach Yarter sometime around midday. It looked like they would be camping out in the open that night. He prepared his horse and climbed into the saddle.

"Well friends, let us ride!" Darvin said as he climbed up on the horse and galloped out of town followed by his companions. Silverymoon or Bust...

  1. So, you read my post, then basically ignored everything it said.

  2. I just ignored certain, non-essential parts. I'm just keeping with tradition you know. Plus I am sick, I get a pass.

  3. Yes, the non-essential parts, like my face to face conversation with Thjodolf, or being the first person at the stables, or the whole thing.

Seeing Darvin suddenly appear out of nowhere, Talathel takes a quick pull from his flask.

  4. As we ride...

    Roll(1d20)+8:
    15,+8
    Total:23

Just looking for things out of the ordinary.

I would assume the day's goal is Yartar. We can fill up on any supplies that we may need since I don't think we can go from Yartar to Silverymoon in one day.

  5. On distances: You can't make it from Yartar to Everlund in a day.

    Distances from where you are:
    Yartar - 21 miles
    Everlund - 90 miles

Because you all have light horses, they are slowed down by your weight (at least Darvin's and Thjodolf's are. I'm not sure about Talathel's) and can only go 32 miles in a day. If you hustle for an hour, you can get up to 36 miles in a day, but your horses will like it more if you don't force march them like that. Your choice as to how far you want to get before spending the night, but you'll have to camp out at least one night, probably.

On the road to Yartar, there is nothing especially odd, though you do see evidence of more large animals moving the night before.

  6. Talathel motions to the trail.

"I wonder what was moved through here recently. I doubt that Nym and her horse made such tracks."

On the second day of riding, Talathel felt a bit more tired than he thought he should. It had been awhile since he had ridden a horse, so he was not used to it. He did his best to hide his fatigue.

He glanced about at the trees lining the road. Nothing in particular stood out to him, so he made small talk with his fellow travelers, and doing his best to coax conversation out of Thjodolf.

  7. "Whatever it was, it sure was big." Darvin remarked in regards to Talathel's comment on the tracks they saw. As they approached Yartar the sun was still out but considering how far Everlund was from them Darvin didn't think continuing on was a good idea.

"I think, my friends, that it is best we stay here tonight and pick up any supplies we will need for the next few days. It will take us some time to get to Everlund." And they trotted into town.

I think Darvin and Talathel need to work on their horseback riding in Montana before touring Iceland.

  9. You arrive in Yartar at around 3 in the afternoon. Are you looking for an in for the night again? Anything else you want to do/look for in town?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Also, Whittaker, why pay for a dude ranch in Montana when we can see if my family there would be willing to teach us or something?

  11. I would vote for staying the night in Yartar. An easy day for the horses, we can stock up on supplies for a few nights of camping.

As far as anything to look for in the town, any weapons shops? I've been thinking of upgrading my kama and if we get into town with a bit of time to peruse, I might as well do it here.

  12. Yartar is a medium size town, and you can find several good-sized merchants there, most likely having what you're looking for. There's also a blacksmith, if your current kama has any sentimental value and you would like to try to simply improve on it.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Well, it did kill a guy. And some rats. So, it has that going for it. I'm guessing it would be cheaper to have a blacksmith do some repairs?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Well, it's SLIGHTLY cheaper to have a weapon upgraded than to get a new one, but the difference is only the cost of the weapon. What are you hoping to do for your kama?

    ReplyDelete
  15. If you are the one doing the upgrading, the cost is cut in half, but I don't believe you have Craft: Metal or Profession: Blacksmith, etc., so it's kind of out of your reach to do it yourself.

  16. As far as I'm concerned, we can work this offline, so you can have an upgraded kama as soon as you figure out what you want and the storyline can keep going. I don't mind not doing it chronologically if you are down.

  17. Just looking for something with some better stats, if possible. Right now its damage is 1d6 +1.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Higher damage, then? Here is a page on the enhancements you can add.

If you give it +1, it will have +1 to hit and to damage. You could also make it keen so it would have double the critical range. Or you could make it a Ki focus, so you can use it for Ki strikes, since you now have that ability.

  19. Question: How is the weather? On our ride out to Silverymoon, would we need tents or any sort of shelter, or would we be fine camping out underneath a tree.

After perusing the shops, Talathel takes notes of some weapons he may purchase later on. He heads back to the inn and puts Arandur in the stable. He finds Darvin and Thjodolf and discusses their lodging plans for the evening.

"This town seems safe, depending on the rates we could do single rooms again. Or, if we so choose, having company is never a bad thing, and we could share one of the larger rooms here."

    ReplyDelete
  20. The weather is pretty good right now. You can go out without a tent.

  21. First day on trip to Silverymoon: Clear, warm and sunny, you don't see a soul on the road.

First night: Clear and a bit chilly. A slight wind crops up overnight, but it's nothing three brave adventurers can't handle.

Second day: Another beautiful day. Towards the afternoon, you start seeing local merchants and farmers on the road to and from Silverymoon.
