"Decisions in the Grove" or Something Silly Like That

Pipper hopped down from Nym's arms and exclaimed, "I wanna see the elves again!" while wagging his tail.

  1. "I think it might be best we go see the goblins. Druuv will know who we can trust, and he may have some pull with the leaders of the group."

  2. hey guys... I am giving you until Wednesday to decide what you want to do. It is time to get a move one. If you haven't made a decision I suspect one will be made for you in some format.

  3. Sounds reasonable. Wednesday it is.

"I want to meet the elves, too!" said Druuv. "If they can't help us, I would be very happy to go talk to the goblins, but the half-elves are MUCH closer. (She still thinks of distances as having meaning, even though they don't really...) So let's see Nym's friends first, and then we can go see my family." As she finished talking, she flashed everyone a smile, settling on Darvin with a beaming grin. "What do you think, Darvin?"

  4. "We appear to be deadlocked..."

Talathel looked skyward. "Druuv, do you think the elves offer us a better chance of help, or are you wanting to go simply to meet them?"

    ReplyDelete
  5. "I still think we should go see the Goblins. So does Guybrush." said Darvin. Everyone looked at the monkey. He nodded vigorously.

  6. Nym cocked her head to the side and smiled sassily, "Well, Druuv and I can go see the half-elves and meet you in the mountains if you boys need some man-time." Nym turned to Druuv saying, "I can introduce you to Illuvaen. He's very... nice," Nym finished, blushing. More seriously Nym continued, "Perhaps the half-elves can offer us some supplies as well. We have no food, no herbs, and little other than the clothes on our backs. It doesn't make sense to set out to the mountains without so much as a blanket to fend off the cold." She raised an eyebrow and smiled, "I, for one, have no intention of climbing a mountain without even a length of rope or a bit of dried food."

  7. "First of all, I have a rope in my pack. Second of all, who is Illuvean?" Darvin exclaimed.

    ReplyDelete
  8. your pack is on the ship... all you have are the clothes on your back and the weapons you came with. You also never figured out how to pay for the rooms at the High Flying Inn, but you ran away in either case.

  9. I just assumed Killink had an expense account, that worked in dream land.

    ReplyDelete
  10. that is ok, I think miss stake wrote it off in the hopes of getting rid of you

  11. "He's a prince!" replied Nym as she started toward the half-elf forest.

    ReplyDelete
  12. "A prince!? You never told us you met a prince. What's he a bloody prince of!?" Darvin shouted as he followed Nym down the path. Darvin didn't know why, but he was feeling jealous.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Talathel shrugged and followed behind, though he stayed a few paces back from Darvin, who seemed a bit upset that Nym was excitedly headed towards a prince.

  14. "I've got a rope," Druuv offered, as a rope rose about a foot out of her pack to wrap around her upper left arm, giving her what looked like an affectionate squeeze before returning to its place in the backpack. "Is this always how Kilink decides things?" Druuv asked. "Or do you have a leader?"

  15. As Nym hurried down the grass path, and Darvin followed behind shouting, the pink and purple trees started to look more similar.
"Look, the Tempest's bloom!" Pipper said pointing his nose at the odd tentacle plant.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Nym placed her hands on her hips and glared at the plant. "Hello, fowl plant. Have you attempted to devour any more honest maidens of late?"

    ReplyDelete
  17. Darvin pulled up alongside Nym as she was talking to the plant. "You've made friends with a plant too?" Darvin asked, "I'm really beginning to hate this place."

    ReplyDelete
  18. Keeping her eyes on the plant, Nym says to Darvin, "I wouldn't say we're friends. The tempest bloom tried to eat me after we'd made a very fair deal."

    ReplyDelete
  19. The plant groaned. "Now don't misrepresent me. As I recall I was reaching out to take a hold of your hand, your reflexes caused you to jump back and then a handsome elf man jumped out to encourage you to follow him. I didn't actually try to eat you."

    ReplyDelete
  20. "I'm always very suspicious of plants. I believe Nym." Druuv got out her heavy pick, and held it in both hands, looking threateningly at the plant. "Where do we go from here, Nym?"

    ReplyDelete
  21. At the mention of a handsome elf man jumping out of the woods Darvin groaned, "This story just keeps getting worse..."

    ReplyDelete
  22. "Of course you weren't trying to eat me," replied Nym sarcastically, raising an eyebrow. She was clearly not buying the plant's story.

Uninterested in the plant, Nym looks around for the direction Illuvean had led her into the forest. She found it easily and motioned for her friends to follow. She and Pipper quickly and quietly disappeared into the forest.

  23. "Oh... of course a goblin would be suspicious of plants. However, you should be more understanding of lot in life considering how misrepresented your species has been by man. After all, I must eat to live, I must gather food to survive, in the end we all eat, we all take from others. Do you eat meat? Do you kill? In the end, I just happen to be a carnivorous... well, blood-sucking plant. That doesn't mean I am either evil, I am simply being. Besides, I never actually eat any sentient beings, their blood is just tastier. Now, I ask that you all leave me be, judgmental meddlesome creatures." The plant turned its main body away from you, as if turning its back on you.

  24. unless you have some similar magic it will be hard to follow her

  25. Seconds after Nym dives through the gap in the trees a handsome half-elf steps out clad in fine cloth, a bow across his back, and a sword at his side.
"Greetings, my name is Illuvaen." he said softly looking over everyone. "Are you friends of Nym?"

    ReplyDelete
  26. Darvin looks this character up and down. To Darvin he looked like someone who was going to sell you a glass bottom boat that didn't have the glass bottom. "Oh, so you're the prince. Yes, we are friends of Nym's," said Darvin.

    ReplyDelete
  27. "Ah... she mentioned the prince part. Sadly yes, though I must admit that I do not favor the title. Nym had told us of your quests. Quite the entertaining tale." Illuvaen said stepping forward and continuing to look over Darvin, Talathel, and Druuv "I must admit that we have historically not gotten along well with the Goblin folk, but certainly I hope that such prejudice will not taint our conversation or possible friendship." He said bowing slightly towards Druuv. "Might I ask What are your names?"

  28. After a few moments, Nym realized her companions were not following her. She stopped, and Pipper ran a few feet in front of her and then ran circles around Nym, excited to be in the forest running. Nym laughed at the silly puppy and said, "I guess we've lost them, Pip." She looked back into the forest, "We'd have heard them crashing around like angry bugbears if they'd followed... Well, let's head back and get them," she said, smiling at Pipper. "I like to run!" said Pipper, as they started back.

Nym heard Illuvaen talking to the others before reaching the tempest bloom's home. She shushed Pipper and then silently crept up behind the half-elf prince. She heard him say, "...your names?" as she came out of the forest. "Druuv, Darvin, Talathel, and Guybrush," Nym said, announcing her return by answering Illuvaen's question, "And they are all a sorry bunch of loud, slow city dwellers who can't keep up with me in the forest." She smiled broadly, enjoying teasing her friends.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Illuvaen smiled upon Nym's return. "I am glad to see you again Nym and I am certainly glad no harm has been done to you or your companions."

    ReplyDelete
  30. Nym smiled back at Illuvaen. "Why would any harm have come to us?" she asked, confused by this statement, as she raised her hands in the High Forest greeting.

    ReplyDelete
  31. He raised his hand back "we suspect that either the shadowcasters or the monks are moving against you."

    ReplyDelete
  32. "We did leave the village after a shadowcaster attacked Druuv and searched our room," she replied. "How did you know the shadowcasters were after us?"

    ReplyDelete
  33. "My mother, the queen, is a talented seer. She saw that something dark was following you and that generally only means two groups in this land."

    ReplyDelete
  34. Talathel, who was never keen on magic before anyways, began to rub his temples as if willing away a headache he felt should be there. He was fine, but he considered it a pre-emptive motion against a headache should it come.

"Illuven, from what I've heard the shadowcasters may have been the ones to bring us here, and may possess a way for us to return to our plane. Why would they work against us?"

    ReplyDelete
  35. "They probably see you as a threat. They feed of other worlds."

    ReplyDelete
  36. "A threat? I didn't know that our actions could warrant us a threat from the dream world."

    ReplyDelete
  37. He smiled "Well, they are most likely concerned about how you were able to cross into this world... they can only influence other worlds through dreams." He paused and glanced at Nym before turning back to Talathel. "Really though you should ask my mother, she has a lot more information about them."

    ReplyDelete
  38. Talathel gave a laugh and looked at Darvin. "So, we've invaded the dream world." He then lowered his voice to a whisper. "You think Mashy runs the place?" He gave Darvin a smile, hoping he'd realize it was a joke, but he braced for a bad reaction nonetheless.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Illuvaen looked confused "Mashy? Who is Mashy?"

    ReplyDelete
  40. Illuvean must have exceptional hearing, as that was said only to Darvin, in a whisper so others could not hear.

    ReplyDelete
  41. He is a half-elven hunter, so I suspect he can hear very well, especially when no one else is talking.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Ah, frell.

"No one, an inside joke." Talathel said quickly, before anyone else could respond.

    ReplyDelete
  43. "I wanna hear what the joke is!" Druuv exclaimed, being easily distracted by Talathel's side comment.

    ReplyDelete
  44. When Talathel just didn't answer, Druuv turned back to Illuvaen. "What's your mom's name? How did she come to be a seer?"

    ReplyDelete
  45. "She is named Aethea, she has always been a seer - her abilities came to her when she was very young."

    ReplyDelete
  46. If her full name is Aethea Lotta, Talathel will projectile vomit on Guybrush.

    ReplyDelete
  47. "Anyway, are you ready to go to the village?" Illuvaen said smiling, his eyes quickly glancing over the four of them.

    ReplyDelete
  48. "YES! YES! YES!" yelled Pipper, hopping around excitedly. He hoped the children who had played with him last time in the village were ready to play again.

    ReplyDelete
  49. "Alright. Lead us, please." Druuv said, putting her pick away.
