The Break-In

Standing outside Nym's door, Janusa asked, "In here? Are you sure?"

Beranhond nodded yes, and before a plan could be made, Thjodolf opened the door and roared a challenge as he charged into the room. "RAAAAAooooooorrrr!"

When he got into the room and had time to look around, though, all he saw was Nym, lying on the ground. Thjodolf picked her up and set her on the bed, moving a large conch shell that was lying there. "She in dream again?"

Janusa responded, "Last time, they were at least all sleeping and just didn't wake up. This time she just passed out. I don't think it's the same thing."

Darvin, worried for Nym's safety, gestured at his cleric companion. "Beranhond, please take a look at her."

  2. From the doorway, Beranhond casts Detect Magic. The only thing he detects that he doesn't suspect is the conch shell, which has a slight aura of magic to it, though the purpose of the enchantment eludes him.

  3. Beranhond, looked over curiously at the conch shell while making his way to Nym. He checked her vital signs and such.
    Heal?

oh boy! What a great time to roll a 32!
If she is alright he will let tell Darvin that she will recover in time and he will look more closely at the conch shell. If she isn't he will try a touch heal. I am out of internet contact for the rest of the day as I wander around Chicago - feel free top respond for me.

  4. Nym is alright and does not need any healing. With a little bit of nudging and coaxing, she wakes. As she wakes up, Beranhond lets Darvin ease her back into wakefulness, and investigates the conch shell.

Do you have any perception/knowledge skills that might be relevant? If so, choose one, and roll for me. Thanks.

  6. That works.
Beranhond observes that the shell is most likely a musical instrument. Because they have an eery, haunting quality to their sound, many groups, both religious and non-religious, use shell instruments like this in ceremonies dealing with death, sleep, and to evoke an otherworldly quality for the proceedings.

  7. As the silence drew out between Nym and Darvin, Talathel stepped up to the bed.

"Glad you're okay. Beranhond had us a bit worried. Can you tell us what happened?"

  8. "I...I was just overwhelmed by everything that's happened, I think. I must have fallen asleep..." Nym looked at Darvin sheepishly as though he'd been the one who asked. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Beranhond examining a conch shell instrument near her bed. She furrowed her brow not recalling when she'd gotten it, but eventually decided it must have been a gift left for her while she had been in the dream world.

  9. Beranhond, taking a careful look at the item, casts detect evil upon it.

    I think I haven't done that yet, have I?

  10. No, you haven't.

There is a lingering aura of evil throughout the room, including the area of the bed, but there is no special evil aura emanating from the shell.

  11. "Beranhond, what can you tell me? Is this where the evil was emanating from?" Darvin asked while keeping a skeptical eye on Nym.

  12. "I felt a large wave of evil earlier, but it has faded and there is only a very small aura in the room right now. Nym, was anyone or anything in this room with you at any time?"

  13. Hello everyone. You are free to post this week, but I'm going to call it an official week off, because basically everyone is unable to post at least part of the week. Whittaker is the only person who hasn't asked for part of the week off, and he will be traveling from Chicago, so will at least be on a plane part of the week.

That said, you are welcome to post, and I will continue to post back until Wednesday night. Cheers.

  14. I believe everyone is back now. Please resume posting from where we left off.

Nym is just regaining consciousness on her bed, and Darvin, Talathel, and Beranhond are there, following Beranhond detecting an overwhelming evil presence in the room with her. The aura lingers, but is fading.

  15. Beranhond, seeing that Nym is starting to awaken lets Darvin attend to her.
"Darvin, she could probably use some water and maybe a bit of food, but when you are done please come and find me." With that Beranhond excused himself and headed off down the hall to his cabin.

  16. Talathel stood in the doorway for a bit.

"Nym, is there anything else I can get you? Lailsan has kept the galley well stocked and should be able to get you some food."

  17. "I'm fine..." replied Nym as she slowly stood up.

  18. "You probably do need to eat." Darvin said to Nym. "I'll have Lailsan bring something down to you." He walked over to Nym. She looked exhausted, like whatever had gone in her room had drained her of all her energy. Darvin gave her a small kiss on the forehead and said, "Let me know if you need anything. I'll have Guybrush stay with you. You can send for me through him." Darvin looked at the monkey, who gave him a smart salute.

The Captain of the Lady Narath then headed out the door and made his way toward Beranhond's cabin.

  19. Nym assured everyone she was just fine several times before she was finally left alone. Lailsan had left her a plate of food, which she placed on the floor for the newly awakened Pipper to eat. Pipper was more than happy to help Nym out in this way and set to work happily.

Nym examined her now destroyed lock and raised an eyebrow at the door in annoyance. "Well at least the door isn't mostly intact..." she said to no one in particular. After a few moments at the door, Nym remembered the conch shell flute. She walked over to it and gingerly picked it up. "Where did you come from?" she wondered. She frowned thinking it must be a 'get well' gift left for her when she was in the dream world. She began to play the instrument, playing a soft tune she'd learned in Silverymoon.

  20. The music that comes from the conch shell seems to hesitate a moment before coming forth, and though Nym plays a very passionate rendition of the Silverymoon tune, she can't help but feel that the song is coming from the air all around her rather than from the shell. The song is one of the river, and its journey to the sea, and it suffuses her cabin, each note feeling as if the soft music has a physical aspect to it. The music is a bubbling brook, a gentle stream, a roaring river, and becomes gentle waves lapping against her mind.
