A brief parting

Hi all,

This has been going great! One thing that both (which apparently I pronounce like bulth instead of bohth) does anyone else do that - Erin, what's your midwestern accent make it sound like?) Dan and I are aiming to do is to keep the plot a bit more grounded and personal. So, be prepared for lots of fun stuff to come and confront you personally! Dun, dun, dun!

There are a couple things I don't really want to worry about doing in roleplay.

First, the name. Several names have been put forward. I'd like us to decide, via vote, in the comments.

The Thojdolf Society
The Lady Narath Company
The Syndicate of Emancipated Acquisitions
The Syndicate of Everlasting Awesome
Typhoon in a BottleDawn Bringers

Second, the next phase will involve two separate parties dealing with either the syndicate or the city council. Could you split yourselves up in the comment section? Thanks!

  1. I personally like the Lady Narath company and Typhoon in a Bottle best in terms of names.

As for the splitting, Johan is definitely going after the Syndicate ATM.

  2. I also think things are going great! I'm so excited to be playing Nym again!

I vote for (in this order) 1. The Lady Narath Company, 2. The Syndicate of Emancipated Acquisitions, and 3. Dawn Bringers. I'm not a fan of the Thojdolf Society, since my character did kill him and totally wouldn't be part of that group, but I'm fine with any of the others as well.

Nym will go to the city council, but she is still interested in trading herbs with Odin as well.

Also, I'm a huge fukkin nerd and made a family tree for Nym, which you're welcome to look at if desired.

Lastly, I pronounce both as bohth, probs because my accent is somewhere between Yooper and Chicago. Weird long a's, words with 'ing' become 'in', and long o's become umlauted af! My undergrad anth professor from the east coast haaaated our central WI accents and took points off for 'colloquialisms' on our presentations all the time. Let's tailgate about it.

  3. I vote for Lady Narath Company, the LNC for short. Put I will also put a token vote in for the Melee Island Historical Society as well.

I feel like Darvin probably should be at the city council meeting.

  4. Jesus Erin, you weren't messing around with that family tree. That thing is impressive.

  6. That is what I did in the evening this week... because I'm a weirdo.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  7. I also vote for the Lady Nareth Company. Now, don't lose the ship.

Since Talathel had suggested that people be aboard the Lady Narath to protect it from seizure, he will stay. Hopefully with some help?

  9. Alright, the Lady Narath Company it is!

    Syndicate group: Johan, Violet, Odin?
    City Council: Nym, Darvin, Beranhond
    Lady Narath: Talathel, Evelaen

  10. Sorry I've been slow. Violet and Odin are both pretty open to whatever. The Syndicate seems like it could be a little bit out of Odin's depth of experiences, but he's up for it, if Violet's in, so he'll tag along.

As for group names, the Lady Narath company works for me, I suppose. It's something that we all have in common now, unlike anything with Thjodolf in the name, who neither Violet, Johan, or Odin ever knew, and Nym was responsible for taking out.

  11. No other votes for the Melee Island Historical Society? How disappointing.

  13. My first vote would still be for Typhoon in a Bottle. Do we even OWN the Lady Narath yet? It was loaned to us by the city of Baldur's Gate at the beginning, but I don't remember what happened with it that led us to be basically permanent owners.

  14. It doesn't matter if we own it or not. We are an adventuring Company that formed upon her decks. In fact, even if she gets taken from us, the name still works because the Lady Narath was the catalyst or one thing we all have in common and an affinity for.

  16. I would disagree. Violet only traveled on the Lady Narath from the south back to Baldur's Gate. It wasn't especially meaningful, even. Odin has never been on its deck before today. Johan has a similar experience to Violet. And other than a bit of traveling, it's not really been an especially key piece of the story. We've tried to make it central to the story, because we wanted to have a seafaring game, but we haven't really succeeded yet.

  17. Well, luckily the Democratic process has played out and the people have spoken.

  19. Thanks, Nick, for trying to make this conversation into an "I'm right, and you're wrong" discussion based on the fact that more people agreed with you. Angering a DM is not something you should do lightly.

I started this conversation with the fact that I was fine wih the Lady Narath company because we are all about to travel on it so it seemed like it was a lot more unifying than the Thjodolf Society. So it's not really like anyone truly objected to the name. Your snide comment about how I'm not part of "the people" because I'd prefer a different name is completely unwarranted.

  20. Except you voted for it! So, that means you are part of the people.

  22. My comment was not intended to be an "I'm right. You're wrong comment." I am sorry if it came off that way. I was actually trying to prevent an escalation into an argument. Of which, I apparently did a poor job. I am sorry.

I don't believe Captain Darvin meant anything by what he said. It does seem that most are happy with the Lady Narath Company. I sincerely hope we can get into the campaign without an angry dragon appearing out of nowhere.
