Then the Morning Comes

Hey everyone, please wrap up what you are doing before the next morning and post where you are at around 8 AM in comments to this post so we can get everyone back together. Thanks!

  1. Beranhond woke bright and early and feeling none to well. He dropped to his knees and prayed for an hour. Then, he slapped his head and cured his weakness and felt immediately better. He then ate breakfast, and gathered his chain shirt and scale mail and headed to the market where he sold them both and looked for some magical armor (is there much available?). If not he will just purchase a masterwork chain shirt (250), before heading on back to the Inn and having some tea.

  2. Talathel wandered the streets of Balder's Gate reflecting on the night before. From the fight to meeting Lailsan Therranya to all that followed, it was hard to put into perspective.

As the sun began its ascent into the sky, filling the world with early morning hues of pink and orange, the elf bought some tea from a vendor and continued to walk the streets. He found himself by the harbor, looking out into the sea.

Would he take Lailsan with him? Would he make his way out the Moonshae Isles to see the faceless elven voice that had found him in the woods a week prior? The elf watched the waves endlessly crash upon the shore, hoping that one crest might yield a glimpse at an answer. Seeing none, he headed back to the Inn. There he saw Beranhond.

"How is the tea here? I think my usual drink of choice to clear my head won't work its charms this time..."

  3. "It is passable... though it seems they don't get my favorite tea in this part of the world." Beranhond pushes his pot towards Talathel and hands hi ma cup. "Feel free to try some, have you seen any of the others?"

  4. Beranhond:
There is plenty of magical armor out there. And you can easily pay to have a mage create some for you if you don't find anything that suits your fancy. What exactly are you looking for?

  5. He wants to get some armor that increases AC, but with a lower Armor penalty.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Or maybe a mithral shirt, and some kinda of magic item to add to his AC.

  7. Nym bounds down the stairs at the inn and sees Beranhond and Talathel having tea. She waves obnoxiously at them and invites herself to sit at their table. "HI!" She says and flashes each of them in turn a huge smile. She sets the wooden box in front of her when the barmaid brings her a plate of food, which she begins to eat.

  8. Beranhond smiles back, "how was the ship?"

  9. "It's pretty nice!" Responds Nym. "I found a whole bunch of my stuff that I had to leave there before! We should go look at it more later..." Nym suddenly remembers Beranhond told her to wait until morning to go to the ship, and she looks sheepish. "...I found my box." She says quietly as she stirs her food around and takes a few bites.

  10. Mithral shirts (1100 gp) are readily available. Are you looking for a dodge bonus to AC, a natural armor bonus to AC or what? What do you already have bonuses to on your Character Sheet?

    ReplyDelete
  11. My AC is at 15, partially because of my low dex score - maybe something either adds dex bonus, or adds a natural armor bonus.

  12. Beranhond:
I recommend making a "Ring of Protection" because though it requires you to be at least 3 times the level of the spell you are casting, the spell required is a level 1 Cleric spell, "Shield of Faith."

  13. Ahh, yes, I shall do that.

In the meantime, could he find a mithril shirt +1? I think it costs 2100 all together (1100 for the shirt +1000 for the +1).

    ReplyDelete
  14. Yes, you could easily find and buy that.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Also, if you were to buy a darkwood shield, you could eliminate a little more of your armor check penalty.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I was looking at that too...

I will post later on what he bought that morning. Right now, I am off to the gym.

  17. Ok, so Beranhond went by the trading house and obtained around 2500 of his 4700.
He then purchased a mithril chain coat +1 (2300), and a Darkwood shield:
    3+150 (masterwork)+10*5 (wt)=203

He will be making a ring of protection later, but first he needs to get his money stock up.

How much could he sell the scale male and regular chain coat for?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Could I have an appraisal check? :D

    ReplyDelete
  19. In the darkwood shield calculation, what's the 10*5 for?

    ReplyDelete
  20. I take back the appraisal check. Go with the general rule that you can sell something for half it's value. So you can get 75 gp for the two pieces of armor together.

    ReplyDelete
  21. The rule I ran across for darkwood shields/armor was to take the base cost of the item then take its weight and multiply by 10 (the shield weighed 5, multiply by 10) to get the darkwood cost. Then add the 150 for masterwork and wallah!

  22. Sounds good. Thanks for explaining.

  23. "You found your box?" Talathel raises an eyebrow and sips his tea.

He turned his attention to branhond. "Are we departing soon? I have not gone into the city to look for better armor yet."

    ReplyDelete
  24. Nym nodded at Talathel and pulled the box toward her protectively. She continued to eat, still feeling sheepish for not having listened to Beranhond and having been found out so easily.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Beranhond would have been more annoyed with Nym if he hadn't partially expected her to do that. Plus, he was much more annoyed with himself and his drinking/preaching antics during the party. He was mostly hoping that word hadn't spread too much.
"Well, I don't know what the schedule is for today other than to take a look at the ship, plus, Darvin isn't hear yet, nor do I suspect he is an early riser. I am thinking of making some items as well, so perhaps we should plan on going to the ship sometime in the afternoon and spending the rest of the morning searching out equipment or such."

  26. Darvin went to bed that night disappointed. Nym had totally brushed him off. In the past this would have never affected him, Darvin usually found it quite easy to move onto one female after another but there was something about Nym that made that impossible.

After Nym had shown him her box and it's contents, Darvin, had made his way back to the inn. He had realized how exhausted he was until he entered his room and collapsed. He awoke in the morning and let out a heavy sigh, the disappointment from the previous evening still fresh in his mind. But he got dressed and made his way downstairs to find his companions eating breakfast. He pulled up a chair and sat down.

"Good morning everyone" He said as cheerfully as possible. He noticed Beranhond looking especially bleary eyed.

  27. "Morning Darvin, we were just discussing today's agendas. Talathel here is interested in procuring some armor, and I have a few items to make, so I was suggesting an expedition to the ship this afternoon so that we have some free time this morning? I know very little about ships, but I wouldn't mind seeing it."

    ReplyDelete
  28. "Well, that would be fine with me. I think I will head over to the ship now and look her over in the daylight. I'll see you this afternoon." Darvin said.

  29. It was at this point that Gurkirat walked into the bar, said hello, and joined the group. :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Beranhond greets him and repeats the message he has said twice already.... "Darvin is heading over there now, while I am going to go craft some items, Talathel is going to go look for armor."

    ReplyDelete
  31. Sorry if I was supposed to post earlier, but I thought today was part of the weekend. Perhaps I should go back and read what the actual day was, but it seems we are commencing tomorrow anyways. Also, "after nym had shown him her box and its contents ... " Am I the only one who uses box as a euphemism for female sex organs? Ah ... worth a laugh.

Gurkirat found himself still in the party and downing drinks like there was a ban on the beverage tomorrow. Sure, everyone at there avoided him like the plague, and the barkeep was pretty hesitant to serve him, but nobody seemed prepared to defy him either so he felt fine doing just as he wished. His companions never came back inside, but that was just as well since battle always brought out the antisocial side of his personality.

As the patrons began to leave the party, a few stopped by to offer final thanks for his part but none were brave enough to utter a word after one look at his grim face. 'Why am I so angry,' he thought to himself as he pounded another brew and called for the coarsest drink behind the bar. This being a party hosted by the city, the worst was still quite good, but the man suggested a bottle of hooch some workers left by accident. Disgusting swill, but it suited his mood perfectly.

And so Gurkirat found himself wandering the streets of Baldur's Gate dangling a bottle of liquid fire from his fingertips. Dawn was breaking as he stumbled into an inn. 'Why this inn?' he wondered, but it just felt right. Tossing his bottle to the side of the road he staggered in and sat. His head wonked on the table as he slumped forward.

  32. 'Weapons and armor huh?' Gurkirat ponders. 'I could probably use some new stuff.'

"Sounds good," he replied, "but I need to down some kaf, and close my eyes for a bit. I'll join you later."
