Dreams

Nym fell into a deep sleep almost as soon as she lay down. She began to dream.

Pipper had grown to the size of a bear, and Nym rode him through a forest. They came to a wide river, and on the other side she could see Wayrn, Avarn, Morna, Moran, and Rahm. They were all the ages they should have been had they lived. She shouted to them and waved, but they didn't seem to hear her. Pipper looked at her and said, "They cannah hear you, Nym." "Why not, Pip?" she asked the fox. "You're too fah away," he said, matter-of-factly. Nym hopped down from Pipper's back and stared across the water. "Maybe there's a crossing further South... or North..." she said. Pipper cocked his bear-sized head to the side, "You know the sea's to the South an' the river is wideh to the North, Nym." Nym frowned, "Then how will I cross to them?" Pipper shook and said, "You cannah cross." Nym stood silently watching them. "But THEY can cross." Pipper just looked at Nym. Nym smiled, and climbed back onto Pipper's back. "Let's go. They will cross when it is time." Pipper ran back into the forest with Nym riding him.
