Ex Viscus Ut Vitam

As Nym stood in front of the crowd awkwardly and Darvin held his head in his hands, four wizards of the school walked onto the stage from the back, followed by four floating beds with small offerings of bows, incense, and earth, one diamond and one finger each. After the beds followed four clerics of Mielikki. The group fanned out, with one wizard with their backs to the assembled group at the foot of each bed, one cleric facing the assembled group at the head of each bed, and the beds splayed out like fingers. Headmistress Tainaste walked onto the stage last of all, walked through the middle of the four, and stood at the front of the stage, addressing the audience.

"Thank you for coming to this ceremony, and helping us to welcome back four of ours who we thought were lost to us." Her voice was magically amplified, and could be clearly heard, though she was not speaking much above a whisper, and with this very simple message, she nodded slightly to Nym and Wayrn in turn at the foot of the stage, then turned to the assembled healers behind her. Nym and Wayrn stepped slowly up the steps to the stage, and stood one on either side of Headmistress Tainaste.

"Healers of Mielikki, may the early autumn these four young ones experienced make way for renewed spring in their lives, and may this renewal nurture them and help them to grow in your bounty." Her voice was still amplified, and though she was not facing them, the entire crowd heard every word she said very plainly.

The priestess to the audience's left raised her left hand. "When I was young, I wanted to be older."

The teacher across from her raised his left hand. "When I was ignorant, I wanted all knowledge."

Nym, taking her part, walked to the left side of the table. "When I was lonely, I wanted companions."

And Wayrn, walking to the right side of the table, spoke his part. "When I was dead, I wanted life."

The priestess continued. "The cycle of life continues, though it was interrupted for a time for this one. May the cycle continue, and may the Forest Queen watch us all through the autumns of our lives."

Once she had finished speaking, she bowed her head to the table. The wizard cast an illusory spell over the table that gave it a glowing halo, obscuring the sight of the items on the table. The priestess spoke three long sentences in draconic, and her hands performed an intricate dance that represented the passage of time through life. As she spoke, the form on the figure, bathed in light though it was, began to take form, and the small offerings on the table grew, like a vine growing up a trellis, the dirt and twigs grew into human shape, though instead of leaves, hair grew, and instead of vines, bones and muscle grew. Shortly after she had finished speaking, the wizard adjusted his illusion to become a glowing brown robe that covered the unclothed body of a 13 year old girl. Nym recognized her as Morna.

As soon as the robe began forming, the girl sat up, looking around startled. She saw Nym, which confused her even more, as she looked like the Nym she remembered, but older, and more mature, and she wasn't sure what to think, but then she saw Wayrn, and started crying and hugging him immediately. Wayrn calmed her down, and assured her everything was going to be alright, and the ceremony continued.

At each of the tables, the same words were spoken, though Nym and Wayrn were the only two involved in all four of the rituals. Moran was next, and took his return calmly, though his poise was obviously a bit forced. Avarn was third, and came to herself screaming and frantic. It took Nym, Wayrn, and Headmistress Tainaste all to stop her screaming, and as soon as she stopped screaming, she began sobbing loudly and uncontrollably. The priest and wizard accompanying her bed accompanied her away so she would not be too embarrassed by her reaction. Finally, Rahm was resurrected, and he simply laid back, not sure what reaction to take. He finally looked at Nym. "Nym, is that you? How long has it been?"

With the four all raised from the dead, Headmistress Tainaste turned once again to the assembly gathered. "We are happy to have all four of our lost students returned to us. Please, show them your encouragement and support."

The crowd began clapping their open right hands against their chests, creating a gentle thunder sound, as if a rainstorm was on the horizon, and the rains of life would be coming shortly to nourish the plants and animals that so depended on them.

  1. Quick note: vita should be vitam which is the accusative form. Vita is the nominative.

  2. Nym smiled at Rahm. "Yes, it is me." She laughed. Luckily the Headmistress had began to talk again, so Nym's talk was lost beneath her voice. "It's been... Seven years since we left, six since we were in Thay, and... five since I've been on my own." She said, avoiding saying 'when you were killed horribly' or something along those lines. Rahm nodded, looking relatively unconcerned. This wasn't surprising since five years was a very short time in the life of an elf.

Nym looked over to Morna, her childhood best friend, and was sad her reaction to Nym had been less than ecstatic. "We'll be taking you all in to rest shortly," said Nym, returning her attention to Rahm. She then joined the clapping and waited for the procession to return to the schools. Nym's presence would likely be necessary to fill in certain blanks for old friends.

  3. To Darvin, the clapping sounded like the rain from a dark cloud that rested solely over his head.

  4. As the sound of the clapping diminished, the group on the stage processed back out the way they had entered, but in reverse order. The group was taken to a section of rooms in the school residences that was unoccupied and given real clothes to replace the illusory robes they had been wearing.

Those in the amphitheater began chatting quietly once the procession had left, and slowly the people in attendance began leaving as well.

  5. "I don't know how long Nym will take gentleman. However, I figure we have a couple of days in town while she helps her friends recover." Beranhond didn't have too much experience with resurrection as Torm tended to frown on it, but he knew that those resurrected usually were in a fragile state. "I suggest we join Janusa and Kailina for lunch at the Inn we are staying at. There was a rather interesting gentleman earlier he offered a minor reward for various services rendered." Beranhond was making up the last part to try to get Darvin out of his funk. He figured that it was not too much of a lie as they could always find an interesting gentleman to pay them for heroic acts. "We can send a message to Nym and let her catch up in her own time."

  6. "I agree. It would be nice to relax for a bit and rest up before the ride back to the ship."

Talathel rose from his seat. Having found Nym, and Killink being reunited he felt as if he could be at ease for a moment, even if the feelings within the group were a bit tense.

  7. As part of the procession, Nym attended the newly resurrected students. For a bit, she was sent to bring food, water, books, etc. for her friends by the healers, but soon the four revived students were asleep. Nym sat outside the rooms, uncertain what to do. She stared toward the door to this section of the school.

For a time, she thought of her old friends living once again, but soon her thoughts turned to Darvin. "Did he travel all the way to Silverymoon just for me?" she wondered. She blushed, thinking anyone, especially Darvin, would go to such trouble for her. She soon began thinking about her dance with Darvin, among other things.

Suddenly Nym was brought out of her thoughts by the sound of tiny puppy cries and scratching coming from the entry door. Nym blushed from her thoughts of Darvin and quickly went to the door to investigate the yaps. On the other side of the door she found Pipper, covered in mud. His tail began to wag and he yapped louder seeing Nym. She laughed at him, grabbed a rag off a table to wrap the dirty fox pup in, and made her way to the stables to find Nesme.

  8. Darvin could only nod at Beranhond and Talathel. In truth, all he wanted to do was go back to his room at the inn and crawl under the covers for days. He trudged out of the amphitheater following his friends. He didn't say a word until they arrived at the Inn. Beranhond was glad to see Kailina and Janusa and went into telling them about the resurrection, sans Darvin's display, and Talathel and Thjodolf sat down at a table to get something to eat. Darvin looked at everyone and then announced, "If anyone needs me, I'll be in my room." He trudged upstairs, laid down on his bed and stared at the ceiling.

  9. Kailina and Janusa were hanging out at Beranhond's inn, which is across town from where Darvin and Talathel were staying, so going upstairs to your room doesn't really work here, unless you first go get your stuff and get a new room. Sorry.

  10. Its so rough being emo! Considering all of our stuff is at the Inn, how about Darvin, Talathel and Thjodolf head back there, promising to meet up with Beranhond and his company later on. The walk back to the inn is painfully silent, as there is no idle chatter to fill the air and allow the mind to relax. Upon arrival at the inn, Darvin says he's going to his room. Possibly he shuts the door a bit louder than usual. Talathel and Thjodolf head down to the tavern for a bite to eat, where the elf hopes to pry the cousin into an emu story out of him.

Eventually (possibly dusk) if Darvin does not show, Talathel and Thjodolf head over to Beranhond's Inn to meet with the gang. The elf relays his concerns about Darvin. Should Darvin come down to the tavern, the three would go over there, and sometime in private Talathel mentions to Beranhond that Darvin is nowhere near himself, and is taking the actions at the ceremony a bit harder than expected.

    Does that work?

  11. Talathel: It works for me. It's really up to Darvin, and I don't think he'll post before 9-ish, if then.

Nym: You have somewhere in particular you are going on Nesme?

  12. Nym heads out of the Lady's College entrance with her very dirty fox pup nestled in a towel on her lap. She was still wearing the school's ceremonial robes over her own clothes. After a moment, she headed toward Wayrn's home to see how he was doing.

  13. Beranhond arrived back at the Inn and saw Janusa and Kailina nursing pints of spiced cider.
    "How was the resurrection?"
"Filled with life. The precedings were much more entertaining."
Their eyes perked up. "Do tell..."
He quickly told of Darvin's confession and Nym's response.
    "Oh, Darvin." They said sympathetically.
"My hope is that they come on over, I think we might go out dancing.
"Dancing? Are clerics known for that?"
"We can be. It is naturally more for him than for us."

  14. It works for me too.

Darvin is currently laying on his back looking at the ceiling at the Inn he, Talathel and Thjodolf stayed at.

  15. As Nym arrived at Wayrn's family grounds, she wondered where her shipmates had wandered off to. She had been surprised to see them all and now wished she had asked them after the ceremony where she could find them.

  16. Darvin:
Are you just staying there? How long do you intend to have your pity-party?

    Talathel:
So are you and Thjodolf heading down to see Beranhond?

    Beranhond and Talathel:
What will you do once you get together if Darvin doesn't come along?

    Nym:
Would you prefer to roleplay the interaction with Wayrn, or would you prefer the summary?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Herm, well I think I'm ahead again, so I guess I'll roleplay it.

    ReplyDelete
  18. We will be. I'll put up a post (just feel like writing something longer than a few sentences!) here in a bit.

  19. Now that I'm not ahead, summary please!

  20. Wayrn is doing pretty well, under the circumstances. The whole ordeal has caused him to appreciate all that he has at home and he has taken it upon himself to rededicate himself to the family. He's rather introspective still about the whole thing, and doesn't talk much while you are there. But he does seem to be fine, somehow, and is polite and friendly, though a bit distant as he tries to sort out what it all means. He politely sees you to the door after about 30 minutes.
