Waiting on the world to change.

When Talathel and Thjodolf arrived without Darvin in tow he was not too surprised.
"He took the events rather harshly..." Talathel said.
"Yes, it is true. Hmmm." Beranhond thought for a moment. "Well, I am not sure we can do anything, it really is between them. "As for us. The night is young! What sort of adventure shall we have?" He asked Talathel, Thjodolf, Kailina and Janusa.

38 comments:

  1. "Is it possible to have an adventure without a bit of drama?" Talathel asked with a bit of a laugh. "As long as our night does not include rats or confessions, I am looking forward to it!"

  2. "As long as the drama doesn't get me in trouble with Narath..."

  3. "I would think you're work with our crew upon the ship that bears your name would give you a little leeway with your goddess, no?"

  4. "Well, let's look at this way. All my powers and abilities come from her, and I can't stop thinking about her... so I suspect that there are certain forms of drama I should avoid. Many others are open."
"Quit being so silly. Let's go dance!" Kailina said, shoving Thjodolf out of her way.

  6. Talathel took a pull from his flask, much to the chagrin of the bartender.

"It would appear that we have a smitten half-orc," Talathel said.

"And it would appear you aren't buying my rum!" the bartender said.

Talathel turned around and looked at the man. It was a half-elf.

    "No, no I am not."

  7. "Come, let us find a place to fill the more barbarous desires in your hearts." Beranhond said.
The group headed down the streets of the maintown until they came across a fairly rowdy sounding tavern. There was a burly looking man at the door who held up his hand.
"Where do you think you are going."
    Diplomacy.

"Well, for a drink and more most likely, we have heard that this tavern is the best in these parts because you make sure to keep out the riffraff.
"I do my part, how do I know you aren't them?"
"Well, look at it this way, we have an elf with us, and you know how much they can drink."
The man nodded. "But you also half a half-orc."
"Only serves to lighten up the party. Besides, there are much more obnoxious races." Beranhond dropped several coins. "I think you dropped something." The man winked and as they stepped inside he noticed him stooping and picking them up.

  8. Talathel stepped inside the tavern. Once beyond earshot of the bouncer (not far, given the din) he tapped Beranhond on the shoulder. "He may know how much elves typically drink, but he has not seen the likes of me!" He took an extra long pull from his flask as if to prove his rather sophomoric point.

He looked around the tavern. There were gypsies on stages throughout the hall. A variety of species, seemingly enticing to most. Thjoldor made a bee line for a scantily clad half orc. Talathel took another pull and reminded himself not to look in that direction.

The place was rather full. There certainly was fun to be had in this place. Talathel worked his way through the crowd, which was easier than he had imagined. He bumped a few people, but no one seemed to mind. He had no destination in mind.

There was a massive bar in the center of the tavern. The bar was a square, two bartenders on each side. Behind them were shelves upon shelves of bottles. There were ladders to help the bartenders get to the highest shelves. Despite the place being busy, they seemed efficient. Talathel did not recognize some of the names of the liquors. He was rather anxious to try some of the more exotic ones when a female elf stepped in front of him.

    "Hi," she said, smiling.

Talathel returned a sheepish grin. He was longing for Lailasn, but temptation was already knocking.

"Can I take your drink order?"

"I'm so very glad you asked. I want something from the other side of Faerun. Something strong and exotic. I just started traveling, and I want something that will inspire me to sail the Sea of Fallen Stars."

  9. As soon as he stepped inside Beranhond knew that he had stepped into a place not meant for any cleric, paladin, or member of an holy order. Oddly, Talathel seemed quite comfortable. Thjodolf ran off and Talathel seemed to find something that caught his eye. Kailina and Janusa shrugged their shoulders and they grabbed a table nearby.
"Are you two going to join in the dancing?"
"Certainly, first we thought that we might partake of some forbidden beverages... assuming you are alright with that." They raised their eyebrows.
"But of course. We have been through enough, what with the hateful druids and the odd blacksmith."
"Yes. It is true. Be right back!" They scampered away to the bar.

  10. A few moments later the waitress returned with a bright blue drink.

"From the city of Khalab, on the shores of the Bright Star Lake, I give you a Blue Monsoon."

Talathel took a sip. "This is incredible."

"Would you like to tour Faerun through our bottle collection tonight?"

"I would very much like that."

Kalina walked by. 'Talathel! Are you enjoying yourself?"

"Beranhond is allowing you to drink?"

"He is! What are you having?"

    "The world..."

    ReplyDelete
  11. Kailina and Janusa returned with large green drinks for all of them.
    "What is that?" Beranhond asked
"Mostly a fortified wine with a bit of mead." Kailina responded.
"Interesting." He took a sip and found it somewhat to his palate.
"Talathel seems to be enjoying himself."
"Well, he is doing important research for the hallowed traditions of the old order!" Janusa said snorting. They all laughed.
"That was kind of mean." Beranhond said. "Particularly in light of the fact that the faith I represent has few followers and little structure."
"Sounds like the best kind of faith to me." Kailina said. "The rules get in the way of the true faith."

  12. Thirty minutes after their arrival, Talathel stumbled over towards Beranhond.

"Sthulthum whiskaa!" he shouted. Sultim whiskey

    "Darthvin would LOOOVE this place!"

    ReplyDelete
  13. Beranhond, Janusa, and Kailina had also been drinking, but only moderately.
"Well, Darthvin is being a boo-head." Kailina said.
"Correctomendumm." Beranhond said, starting to speak bad celestial. "To Narath, my Goddess, and my love. Sadly, they had to mix!" Beranhond finished his drink up.
"Tell me about your girl." Janusa said to Talathel.

  14. Talathel perked up a little bit and even sat up a little in a chair at the table, as if Lailsan might walk through the door at any moment.

"This may shock you, but we met at a bar." No one was shocked. "She was lovely, had a great smile, a beautiful elven maiden, smart, witty, she even smelled nice." Kailina rolled her eyes a little bit. "We just seemed to connect. It is hard to describe. We have only spent a little bit of time together, but in that short while, I convinced her to come with us on our trip."

"And what if she suggested you leave the Lady Narath?" Janusa asked.

The question seemed to sober up Talathel...a little.

"I suppose I would owe that to her."

"Over that little amount of time?" Janusa asked. "Isn't it a bit odd to go on a journey after only knowing someone for that small amount of time?"

"Possibly as odd as pledging to not drink or swear on a sailing ship!" Talathel gave out a hearty laugh. "We all made a decision to join that crew, some of us knowing what we were getting into more than others. It is a leap of faith to some degree, to trust those around us even though we know little about them. The fact that she trusted me to join us is a testament to our connection."

"Get him more liquor, he's starting to get philosophical." said Kailina.

"I doubt that would help," responded Janusa.

"You are very much correct. Renae! (the waitress) Something from...oh...Krenalir!"

    ReplyDelete
  15. "Well, hard situations bring trust and help us to know each other. Honestly though, how well do you know anyone in this world? I lived across the world in a completely different world and as a completely different person for most of my life." Beranhond then pointed at Talathel. "He was in a monastery for Narath's sake!"

  16. By the time Nym had returned from Wayrn's, the mud had crusted over Pipper's fur. Nym gave him a good long bath and then found her father for dinner. He suggested she find her friends from the Lady Narath to catch up and learn why they were in Silverymoon as well. Nym thought that was a fine idea, and set out on foot with Pipper tagging along behind.

After several hours of asking around about a very tall human cleric (as Beranhond was likely the easiest for people to remember because of his height), Nym arrived at the inn Beranhond, Janusa, and Kailina were staying at. A bit more prying found they had headed out to find a rowdy bar, the most likely place being the Stagstand since it wasn't all that far from the inn.

As Nym stood in front of the bar, she could hear glasses breaking inside and plenty of laughter and music. She was suddenly very pleased she'd stabled Nesme for the night. Nym picked up Pipper, stuffed him under one arm, and started toward the tavern door. As she came near, a very large, burly human tossed a very drunk man who had clearly been in a fight out the door. Nym stood surprised as the burly man yelled at the drunk to get out before turning his angry face toward her. After recovering from her shock, she smiled at him and walked through the door with purpose.

It took a few moments for her eyes to adjust to the tavern light. The dancing gypsies on a multitude of stages all dancing to different music mingled with the stale smell of alcohol and vomit were all sensory overload to Nym. She caught her reflection in a large dirty mirror to her right, and noticed how strange a face painted half-elf with a white fox pup under her arm must look in a place like this. She began scanning the tavern for her friends, hesitant to walk further into the bar alone.

  17. I'm glad you figured out how to meet up. A note that the Stagstand is a tavern, but Darvin and Talathel managed to rent a room from them, and that is where they are staying. They have several rooms, generally reserved for drunk patrons who can't walk, but they are willing to rent them, too. Beranhond is staying at another Tavern, Solar's Smiling Satyr, though it's in the area of the school, and is more of a quiet bar where people drink and make philosophical statements for the others around them than the raucous place you have found for the evening.

    ReplyDelete
  18. "The monastery! It was not that long ago that I left there, but it seems like ages. Slaying wererats will do that to you!"

"You left? I thought you were kicked out?" Janusa asked. Talathel shot him an angry, but quizzical look. Janusa, slightly embarrassed, looked down at his drink.

Talathel took a sip from his drink. It was a Krenalir spiced rum and one very much to his liking. As he set his glass down, he scanned the crowd , and glancing at the door he did a double take.

    "Beranhond...."

    "Yes?"

"Am I drunk enough to be seeing things, or is Nym here with a dog?"

    ReplyDelete
  19. "Hmmm, you are drunk enough to be seeing things, but that is Nym, but I don't think that is a dog. Looks more fox-like." He said this while waving his hands at her.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Wait... so are you telling me that Talathel left the inn and found Beranhond. When they left the five of them found a new tavern and neither Thjodolf or Talathel recognized that it was the place they were staying at?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Either that or Nym's post was slightly incorrect, and she was at the Stagstand and was told you are at a bar nearby... Her post implies you're at the Stagstand right now, though...

    ReplyDelete
  22. Well, Nym's post is slighty incorrect then as we certainly did not go back to where they were staying. First because Talathel would have noted that and secondly because we figured that Darvin didn't come down because he wanted time to himself. Plus, he posted earlier and said that he went for a walk and so that wouldn't fit either. I think we probably went to one of the seedier parts of town.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Not that it really matters - we could be near the Stagstand, but not in it so as to avoid Darvin leaving and heading down to reflect by the river.

    ReplyDelete
  24. You are at the Dancing Goat, just on the North side of the Moonbridge.

    ReplyDelete
  25. After looking around for a bit feeling incredibly uncomfortable, Nym saw Beranhond waving to her. She smiled and started toward them while moving Pipper into her arms more comfortably.

"Hi!" she said, flashing her smile at them as she sat between Beranhond and Kailina. Pipper sat on her lap and peered around at the group, cocking his little head from side to side as he took the people in.

Nym continued, "What are you all doing in Silverymoon too? I was surprised to see you at the resurrection. Did you think it went well? I think it went wonderfully! I'm going to go see how they're all doing tomorrow before I was planning on heading back. How long were you going to stay in town? Do you have some business here? I stopped at home on my way here and spent a bit of time there. It was nice! I think Nesme's liking being out riding. I'm not much of a ship person myself really. My father's in town with me. Did you see him at the ceremony? He's tallish, has dark hair, he was wearing a green coat. Anyway, you'll have to meet him. He's the quiet type, though. And he's a healer like you Beranhond! Well, not exactly like you. He uses herbs and things to heal - I've never seen him slap someone better."

At that, Nym laughed remembering Beranhond's slap-heal on Talathel.

    ReplyDelete
  26. "Well, I took a side trip to visit the druids before coming here... but that is another story entirely. I came up to join you all and see how Darvin's quest had turned out." Beranhond responded to Nym. "I am glad Tigrisclawu decided to catch some sleep instead of coming out - I am not sure how he and your companion would get along in a noisy tavern such as this."
    (talk to animals ability)
"How are you young friend, what is your name?" Beranhond asked the curious critter who sat in Nym's lap.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Pipper's ears perked up and he cocked his head to one side at Beranhond's question. To everyone else, Pipper sounded like he was yapping and yowling away quite happily at Beranhond, but to Beranhond he said, "The Master called meh nothin' but the Nym calls meh the Pipper! She is my new mother. You smell like the cats, Human. Are you a cat?"

    ReplyDelete
  28. Beranhond laughed. "No Pipper, I just happen to travel with one of them."

    ReplyDelete
  29. Pipper tried to eat a spider crawling along the table but missed. It scuttled under the table and away from the fox pup who watched it. "Do you like spiders?" He asked Beranhond, watching it. "Why do you travel with the cat?"

    ReplyDelete
  30. "Mainly for company, plus he is an excellent hunter and doesn't take up too much time."
Beranhond chuckled "Nym, Pipper there is almost as talkative as you are."

    ReplyDelete
  31. Kailina and Nym had been listening to Thjodolf's story about his cousin being turned into an emu when Beranhond said this. Pipper looked up at Nym who kissed his nose. "Is he?" she said, smiling at Pipper and then Beranhond. Pipper lay down on Nym's lap and fell asleep, despite the noise. "What's all this about meeting druids?" Nym asked.

    ReplyDelete
  32. "Druids? Nothing good can come from Druids." Talathel said, matter of factly.

He got some blank stares from the table. At random he stared down Janusa.

"Name one! One good thing that comes from druids!"

"Uh...uh..." Janusa stammered. "They're one with nature?"

"So am I on a long hike. Renea! Got anything from Seacomer?"

    ReplyDelete
  33. "And they're always trying to give you magic berries... who wants magic berries anyways?" added Nym.

    ReplyDelete
  34. If nobody has anything else they're hoping to accomplish at the bar, let me know, and I will scootch on ahead. I have decided to try implementing hangover rules. I am trying to keep them very simple, so they are fun and not annoying and I will post them tonight or tomorrow morning.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Well, Talathel is fairly certain he hasn't hit all of Faerun on his world tour, but I guess we could move ahead. Also...hangover rules...booooo.

    ReplyDelete
  36. BH was just nursing the one drink all night. I think we are all set.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Sorry I haven't finished the whole summary up yet. I'm slow. Nym, do you mind if I include your meeting with your friends? Is everyone intending to head back to Waterdeep? I was going to just start you heading back that way and stop you only if something untoward happens along the way. That sound like a plan?

    ReplyDelete
  38. It works for me. Although Darvin and Nym need to have a talk but I suppose that can happen on the ship.
