Dohn's Apartment

Dohn led them to his apartment and refused to answer any questions until the morning.

"The night is their realm, we will be somewhat safer in the morning." He led them to a guest bedroom where Darvin managed to snag the bed and leave Talathel on the small cot.

In the morning Darvin and Talathel woke to the smell of bacon, sausage and eggs drifting through the door. As they left their room they saw Dohn wearing a large apron and cooking up a variety of meat products. Seeing them he smiled.
"Fat, salt, and meat are the essential elements of anyones diet! There are also some fresh pastries if you like." He said pointing at a large pile of various pastries. "There is also some fresh juice if you want to make mimosas (he used another word but I will translate it as a mimosa)."

  1. Darvin feeling a little dehydrated after a night of drinking and battling decided to pass on the mimosa and just have some juice. He was glad to see the assortment of breakfast meats though, as there is nothing better for a hangover than greasy food.

  2. "Dig in boys." He said setting out of several plates. "Now, what did you do to arouse the shadowcasters? Sneaking into this city is not easy and can be quite painful to them. What have you done?"

  3. "That is a question we don't even know the answer too," said Darvin, "We are not from this world. We seem to have stumbled here through our dreams. Or something like that, right Talathel?"

  4. Talathel was in the midst of a mimosa and simply nodded.
"Well, now what can I help you with?" Dohn asked. "I am assuming you sought me out for more than my company. Is it just you two?"

  5. Talathel set the drink down.

"We have one other companion with us from our realm. A half elf named Nym. Since we arrived, a goblin by the name of Druuv has joined us. We got most of our information from a group of half-elves. Their prince, Illuvian, told us you may be of assistance."

  6. "Oh Illuvaen sent you did he? One of the few genuinely nice people in the world. I shall certainly help in that case. Of course, I must ask what exactly it is you want me to help you with."

    ReplyDelete
  7. "I think we both agree that Illuvian is an absolutely wonderful person," Talathel said, just as Darvin was putting another forkful of egg into his mouth.

"As we are not of this realm, we wish to return to ours. The shadowcasters have the means to do so, we want to find out more about it. Illuvian said you may be able to help us sneak in to their tower and learning more about their dream gate."

  8. "Oh, well, now that is quite an undertaking. I could help you do it, but it will be quite difficult. What do you know of them and their ways, and how do you plan on sneaking into the tower - or are you still working on that as well?"

  9. "The half elves were not as helpful with that as I would have liked. We thought of dressing as one of their allies, coming in disguise to gain access to the tower. The plan is though, at best, very much so a work in progress."

  10. "Well, what did you expect from foresty mystical half-elves?"

of course, why would the npc's give you all the plans you need?.

"One of their allies..." he looked thoroughly at them "so they suggested you come to me to learn how to mimic one of the monks and then sneak inside. I will do so, but only with the understanding that you know the likelihood of death is fairly high and that you find a way to destroy their crystal."

As soon as he finished Illuvaen walked through the door.
"Ah, Illuvaen, so good to see you again. Grab a seat!"
"Just a second - I have to go and grab Nym, she is still looking for you."

  11. Nym hopped through the door in front of Illuvaen and quickly scanned her friends and the mystery person for any signs of injury. Pipper ran past her to eat some bacon that had fallen on the floor. Satisfied that they were no worse for the wear (unlike herself sporting several large gashes covered by her clothing, an assortment of scratches and bruises, and a not-so-attractive black eye), she exclaimed looking at Darvin, "I was so worried!" She ran over to Darvin, wrapped her arms around him, and buried her face in his shoulder.

  12. Darvin was surprised at Nym's embrace. The last time he "saw" her she was insulting him and making kissy faces a Illuvaen. It felt good though. He suddenly didn't Illuvaen as much as he had only seconds earlier.

"It's ok. We're alright," Darvin said to Nym as he kissed her on the forehead, "Those Shadowcasters are nasty things though."

  13. "They are getting more bold Dohn." Illuvaen responded seemingly paying no mind to either Darvin or Nym's behavior. He did however grab a plate of eggs and sausage and started to eat.

  14. I was secretly hoping that Darvin would snap and attack Illuvian. You know, for the laughs.

  15. "I heard they were getting the best of you," said Nym to Darvin, frowning. She appeared lost in thought for a moment before continuing, "I might be able to do something about that." She smiled at Darvin.

  16. Dohn ignored Darvin and Nym and focused his attention on Talathel and Illuvaen. "I will give you some background in the ways of the monks. Aside from your clothing you should fit in well. The order follows the teachings of Coldal who established the order in the distant past to help this world. Sadly, in the recent years their mission has been corrupted and they are more given to helping themselves than others. They do however have a very profitable slave trade and so you would be able to gain access to the shadowcasters tower with the proper knowledge."

  17. Darvin looked at Nym curiously, "No, it was not one of my better moments," he said. He remembered himself sobbing in the street and shook his head, "How exactly could you help?" Darvin said with a sly smile.

  18. Darvin, as a point of reference Nym did almost die, so some of the marks still remain and you might comment on her situation as well. Particularly the black eye.

  19. "How would you like a tattoo?" asked Nym, raising an eyebrow and smiling widely.

    ReplyDelete
  20. "A tatt....Hey, what the hell happened to your eye?" Darvin asked finally noticing Nym was a little worse for the wear.

  21. I always knew Darvin would be one to go for tattoos. And Nym would definitely be the one to give him one. I hope it's a unicorn or or starfish.

  22. Nym shrugged, being evasive, as she prepared for the magic tattoo spell. She didn't particularly want to discuss her near-death experience.

  23. "Where do you want this?" Nym asked Darvin. He frowned at her, not having given up on finding out why she looked worse for the wear but knowing better than to interrupt a magic act, especially one directed at himself. Nym ignored his look, talking it to mean he didn't know where he wanted the tattoo. "Shirt off," she commanded, smirking at him, "I'll decide." Darvin followed the instruction, a little embarrassed to undress in front of his companions. Well, embarrassed to undress in front of most of his companions, though he wished he wasn't the only one of the two taking clothing off...

Nym pushed Darvin into a chair and examined him, for a moment forgetting she was looking for a good tattoo spot and simply admiring his body. She blushed as she selected an area on the left of his chest over his heart. Nym placed her hand on the area and closed her eyes, concentrating on the task.

Used: 1 hero point to use spell I don't have and 1 hero point to make the tattoo permanent in this world. (Total 2 hero points spent)

    DC for spell success: 10
    (1d20)+??
    11
    Success
The tattoo grants Darvin +2 to will checks

Check for how cool/horrible the final product will look: DC ?
    Craft(Paint): (1d20)+4
    18+4
    22

I'm gonna guess a 22 is enough for the tattoo to be good. Here's what Nym had in mind:

When Nym finished the spell after about 10 minutes, she stood back to look at her work. She cocked her head to the side and said, "Well, what do you think? You should be able to resist the Shadowcaster attacks better now..."

  24. Darvin looked down at his newly tattooed chest. He hadn't particularly wanted a tattoo, but this one was pretty cool. He thought it made him look more menacing. "Wow," said Darvin, "That's impressive. And anything that helps me fight off those Shadowcasters is a good thing." He looked down and admired his tattoo some more. He then realized that Nym never answered his question, "Hey, you never answered my question!?"

  25. It isn't as ornate as the picture you showed and their are some minor flaws that you can notice (but no one else can see as obvious flaws. However, considering your general lack of training it did indeed turn out quite well.
Just so that Nick knows, once you return to Faerun it will not be permanent as per Dan's ruling on the situation. However, do factor it into all your future will calculations while in this world.

  26. Nym touched her eye and sighed. "We were attacked too last night by someone sent by the shadowcasters," offered Nym.
