Recounting Beranhond's Adventure in Brief

"Let's just get away from the city for now - there is an army behind us and I do not want to be caught up with it." Once we are away from the city, and after we have all rested a bit more, why don't we convene and I will tell you what I learned." After everyone nodded Beranhond led Aelysin on down and showed her a bed on which to rest before he made his way to his cabin and feel promptly asleep.

I am just going to skip forward several hours - hope you don't mind
After several hours of traveling south from the city, Beranhond, Nym, Darvin, and Talathel convened in the conference room.
"After you fell into your catatonic state I led the Lady Narath back to Waterdeep. Seeing no improvement I went ashore to try to learn more about the situation. I was surprised to arrive and find that the city was in chaos and everyone was fleeing. It appears that the druids of Ishishia had decided that they were going to attack Waterdeep as they had attacked Baldur's Gate."
"The druids attacked Baldur's Gate?" Nym asked.
"Yes. I suspect their reason is that they felt that these cities were haven for the "fallen" Lathanderians. heir official reason was because of the threats made by Lathander by way of this Ishmael. He had desecrated their shrines and holy sites and rather than dealing directly with the Lathander council they took Ishmael at face values. However, I will get to that more in a bit."
"But Lathander didn't do anything did they?" Nym asked.
"Well..." Beranhond paused. "It appears that several low level priests had done some fairly stupid things. It appears that Lathanderian priests mishandled several events; of course many of these poorly handled events were in response to the attack by the druids. Let's just say that in general neither side were interested in listening to one another. I decided to go see what the Tormish Paladins were up to and met up with my old friend Ceilith." He took a sip of water, though no one seemed to be inclined to ask questions. Darvin did have his eyebrow raised as if he knew that there was more to the "old friend" than Beranhond was letting on.
"She let me know that the Tormish followers were convinced that Lathander was being infiltrated and that they were going to go plan on attacking a camp. I joined them and we traveled north to a camp where a small contingent snuck into a camp and met a man named Methasse. Eventually it turned out that this man was Ishmael and we barely escaped with our lives. The entire camp of trained Lathanderian priests and paladins started uprooting and set to follow the Tormish paladins."
"We arrived back to Waterdeep to find it abandoned. Ceilith pulled the Tormish Paladins back and is quite distrustful of Lathander in general. I myself am inclined to agree as there appears to be corruption from top to bottom."
Beranhond drank a bit more water.
"As you can see, the entire region has disintegrated into chaos. I would suggest we either seek out the druids of Ishistia and talk to them. We could join up with the Tormish Paladins, but they are waiting for reinforcements and that will take some time. In general I do not think we are quite strong enough yet to take on this Methasse/Ishmael. We could seek out some allies and see if that might help."
Dan will be making the text document available for everyone so you can read the specifics.

  1. Darvin stared at the table and thought about all the news that Beranhond has just recounted for them. It was amazing really, how much everything had changed in a few short months. Not long ago he was a simple fisherman in Secomber, and then Talathel walked into a bar...

"I think it's best that we find some allies as well. My inclination is that the Paladin's of Torm can handle themselves. Not only that but my instinct tells me we are needed elsewhere. Perhaps we head back to Baldur's Gate and ask if any other strange happenings have occurred up or down the coast?"

  2. "I agree with you on that - the Paladin's of Torm are most likely going to hold steady for now. It would be good to let the city of Baldur's Gate know that we discovered who attacked them and we should restock there before we travel much further as Waterdeep will not be a useful stop for anybody anymore."
"I think we should go talk to the druids. They need to answer for their destruction of a city." Nym said from the corner.

  3. Is the decision to head to Baldur's Gate, then?

  4. Thjodolf came in at this point during the discussion. "Me think orc shamans give good help. We should go south."

  5. "How far from Baldur's gate can we find the shamans? I think the paladins are our best bet, but after seeing what the druids could do, I think increasing our numbers would be wise."

  6. "I like Thjodolf's idea of heading south. Where exactly are you talking about Thjodolf?"

  7. Beranhond didn't like the sound of going and visiting the druids, but the orc shamans didn't sound that much more promising.
"I think we should swing by Baldur's Gate quickly. My only concern with the shamans is about how well they get along with other races. Do you know Thjodolf?"

  8. Nym only half listened to her companions as they discussed their plans. She felt like something had snapped in the back of her mind when she learned that yet another supposedly good group was quite the opposite. Someone needed to pay for the destruction of Waterdeep, and she was more than willing to be the one who made them pay...

  9. Thjodolf said, "Orc shamans far to south. Many days journey. Probably 2 weeks." Then, responding to Beranhond's question he said, "Orcs not liked much. But might help us. Also not sure. I not been there since small orc." He gestured to indicate a height that came up to his knee. "There priests of Istishia in some cities, too. We talk to them?"

  10. Beranhond shrugged. "I think this is the perfect chance for the captain to show his decision making ability. I have no problems with visiting the Orcs." However, I do not feel comfortable visiting the druids quite yet. He thought to himself while leaning back in his seat. "In either case, I will abide by your decision Darvin."

  11. Right, right...Sorry the new NCAA Football game just came out, I've been a bit distracted.

Darvin weighed all the information that had been laid out on the table. It seemed to him that the Orcs could potentially be a valuable resource that no one else was using.

"I think we should go south. The orcs may offer us a different perspective on what has been happening. Also, I am beginning to doubt that these terrible events are only happening in the north. Something very sinister is at work here. Thjodolf, please inform the crew to set our heading south. The rest of you please join me in my cabin so we can discuss our of action in the south. Thjodolf, please join us once the ship is pointed in the right direction." And with that Darvin headed to his cabin to get ready. Whatever was happening, he didn't like it one bit.

  12. Thjodolf ran up to the deck and had the anchor lifted, and set the ship's heading to the south.

  13. Was there a reason we didn't split up and go meet the Paladins as well? Was going to suggest that, but we're apparently off already. My bad!

  14. I don't see a lot of reasons to meet up with the Tormish Paladins - Beranhond just returned from them and they are going to hold up and survive until reinforcements arrive. I suspect we have some time to recruit allies and return to fight the growing evil.

Beranhond thought it was strange that they were moving from the conference room next door to his cabin, but he shrugged his shoulders and decided to go meet up in a moment. First he went below to check on Aelysin. When he opened the door to the crew birth he saw that she was camped out on Kailina's bunk chatting with her. She smiled brightly when she noticed him before.
    "Thanks again Beranhond."
"Glad to be of help. You have everything you need?" She nodded. "Well, glad to hear that I have to go to another meeting, but I am sure we will talk later.
"I look forward to it." She said smiling at him.
He smiled back and walked upstairs in an oblivious mood.

  15. After the meeting, Nym quietly slipped down to her room. She noted absentmindedly that Nesme and Pipper were both asleep in the horse's pen. She slipped into her room quietly, careful to avoid talking to anyone on her way. Once inside she closed, and for the first time aboard the ship, locked her door.

  16. When Darvin entered his cabin he pulled the few chairs that were inside up to the captain's dining table. He then went over to a small cabinet and pulled out a bottle of brandy that had been left onboard by the former crew and that he had taken care to hide from Beranhond. He grabbed some glasses, put them and the brandy on the table, and waited for his friends to arrive.

  17. Beranhond opened the door to Darvin's cabin, stepped inside, and grabbed a seat. He noticed that some form of alcoholic beverage was sitting on the table but decided not to say anything. The no-alcohol pledge was more a source of amusement for him than anything Beranhond was really concerned about, especially given the much more grievous situation at hand.
"Well Darvin, is this what you expected when you jumped ship in Baldur's Gate?"

  18. After the meeting adjourned, Talathel headed to the galley. He could not tell if it was out of hunger or out of wanting to see Lailsan that drove him there. He truly was famished and had not gotten a bite to eat.

As soon as he entered, an apple was tossed his way by a smiling Lailsan. She brought him up to speed on what she had been doing, which was mostly preparing the occasional meal for the crew. With Beranhond off the ship, those were seemingly scarce. Lailsan had tired of looking at the open ocean, and was happy to have some company once again.

Talathel ate the apple, feeling quite content. He told Lailsan a little about the dream world, though he glossed over the parts about Miss Stake. "A mischevious innkeeper," he said. After awhile, another of the crew came in, looking for something to eat. With that, Talathel bid farewell and headed towardss Darvin's quarters.

  19. posting from the plane and since Nick keep refusing to post I am going to post a little bit of conversation for him

"Not at all." He took a large swig of the alcohol. As soon as he drained the glass Talathel opened the door and sat down.
"So what is the plan of action in the south?" Beranhond asked them. He wasn't too comfortable with a trip to the south, but he was positive that he wanted to get away from the situation in the north.

  20. A quick note, my parents are in town for awhile and so I don't know how much I'll be posting. It will be low on my priorities.

"I would assume we would follow Thjodolf and talk with his people. It will be a long journey, I'm sure."

Talathel picked up a glass and took a sip. He closed his eyes as the liquid warmed his throat.

"Until then, here's hoping for a bit of normalcy on the high seas."
