Candlekeep Quandary: Beranhond, Darvin, and Johan Investigate (Part 0)

I assume that you are traveling together to Candlekeep and that you are going to be riding down together by horse. That is the usual way of getting there. I also assume that you will bring Ragdar, but Ceilith will stay behind to help with the city.

Please let me know if you would like to bring anyone else, travel in some other manner, or change anything from the above plan, and I'll start writing up your journey.

  1. Beranhond will bring one of the Paladin's along. Her name is Alixondra, and was with Beranhond and Ceilith in Thay.

  2. Johan is fine with this. However, he does express concern to Beranhond that, if he remembers the stories about Candlekeep correctly, you need a book to gift to their library in order to gain entry. Do we have a tome like that, or will we need to break in?

  4. Dan, could Beranhond gift one of his copies of the "Narath Codex: A Guide to Latter Prophets of this Day"?

  5. Luckily, Councilwoman Kallis has a stock of rare books she's reserved for when she hopes to visit Candlekeep and offers you one of her collection before the end of the meeting with the City Council. She gets a whimsical look on her face as she reminisces about how much magic and mystery are intertwined and how wonderful the fortress used to be as she tells you about how she will select the book.

  6. Beranhond: Yes, that would be an acceptable entry gift, as well.

  7. We'll take one of her books as well, never hurts to have a backup!

  8. Tarryn Kallis gives you her copy of, "Why Werewolves Cry to the Full Moon: A Collection of Lycanthrope Love Sonnets."

  9. Johan sighs internally, and takes the proffered book before stuffing it deep into his pack as soon as they are out of sight of Kallis.

  10. Dan, where do you come up with this stuff? Lycanthrope Love Sonnets. I'm afraid that you may actually own that book. I have no problem bring Ragnar but wouldn't it be more likely he stays behind and prepares for the rest of the vikings to arrive?

  11. Beranhond opens the book and glances at a poem:

    My hearts howls

    At night, hunkered down,
the mist rolling across the moor
The moon shines on the town,
and I wait outside your door

Many have chased me across the field
But my burning heart sought your soul
I push the window to cause it to yield
Sniffing my nose, I ignore the mole

Beranhond shut the book and rolled his eyes. Sonnets had never been his favorite form of poetry.

  12. I assure you, Nick, you would not find my mind a comfortable place. :D And I think it's equally likely he'd go with you.

He is very independent, and his people are expected to be able to handle themselves. He would chafe at being kept locked into just being a clerk for weeks, so he'd prefer going with you. This is how he's rationalized it, at least.

  13. you could always say "bad Ragnar, stay! Stay!"

  14. Works for me.

Darvin shook his head at the book, then looked at his companions, "I think a night of drinking is in order before we set out. Shall we away to the pub?"

  15. Johan inclined his head, and said "Provided you can stay upright on your steed tomorrow morning, I see no reason why we couldn't enjoy a small nightcap."

  16. "Small being the operative word in that phrase. We'll need our wits about us on the way down to Candlekeep."

  17. I assume this is just for fun, and you are just thinking you'll do a small bit of role playing, if you do anything at all. I assume do not want to have me come up with a drinking game or anything. Let me know if you have something else in mind.

  18. Feel free to advance the story. But, if you don't do it in a timely manner we might start a bit more trouble at the bar.
