Dinner Party - Evelaen's Story

All of stories are occurring at the same time, so feel free to continue to message/comment on the previous posts.

Evelaen took a drink of water and then smiled around the room. "I know we only met each other today, but I feel like I know all about you. Beranhond's stories about you were quiet in depth and detail. After all, we had a long time to talk on the journey back here from Saerloon. She took another sip.
"I was born to a wealthy family in Saerloon. My father served as a legal adviser to the merchant and mining councils. I naturally was heavily involved in the upper crust of the city. It might surprise you, as Saerloon is known for its thievery and dark underbelly, but the upper crust of the city, though not that different in many ways, loved their over the top festivities. At the age of thirteen my family put together my cotillion where I was shown off of to the noble classes and my family prepared for my marriage."
She caught the surprised look in Nym's eyes.
"I was married by fourteen to a wealthy family in the city. My husband is nice enough, but honestly, an arranged marriage to a man who is mostly concerned with making moe money and having more stuff isn't exactly what I was looking for in my life."
She shifted slightly, starting to draw vertical lines on the piece of paper she had kept in front of her for notekeeping.
"Needless to say, my marriage was a bit of a sham, partially because I was keeping a second, much more private life, as a sorceress. I took to haunting the streets at night after my husband fell asleep fighting with the local brigands and crime elements. It was late one of those nights that I met Etheldred, though, at the time he was going by the name 'Iacobes' which really didn't seem to fit."
She bit her lip, drawing the liens a bit nervously.
"Well, to tell that part of the story quickly, he was trying to provide medical aid to a fallen comrade, and I helped him to fight off the local brigands. On the way to my home we got to talking and telling stories... to make a long story short I left my husband at our house a week later and took to ship with him."
"Beranhond still has some nervous moments about the fact that I'm married, but I try to tell him that my husband probably doesn't even notice that I'm gone. Besides, I know that if I wasn't around he'd probably wind up going back to being a farmer."

  1. With a firm nod, Johan says "You were wise to not follow his path; Wealth does not fix all the problems of this world, not truly." He leans back in his chair, folding his arms over his chest.

  2. The more Evelaen spoke, the more Nym liked her. Nym stifled a giggle at Beranhond's disguise name. When Evelaen was finished, Nym leaned forward and asked, "By which of your parents did you come by your magic abilities?"

  3. Darvin was not exactly sure how he felt about Eva leaving her husband for Beranhond. One the one hand, he was happy for his friend. On the other he had been burned by similar circumstances not that long ago. However, he had decided he liked Eva and was not going to hold that against her. Besides, her husband was probably a real asshole.

"Eva, I'm glad you are here. We can always use another magic user in the group. As Captain of the Lady Narath, I welcome you aboard."

  4. Evelaen smiled broadly at Nym, her eyes darting about. "Well, my mother's line. There's rumors on that side that an ultimate ancestor of hers was half elf. I sometimes think that is nothing more than fanciful romanticism. It was a bit of shock to learn that my family kept such a secret from the rest of the high society."
She grinned, nodding at Darvin's welcome.
"Thank you, I am glad to be aboard and for such welcome. I've never really considered myself to be that lucky, but I feel lately like my luck has completely changed."
She smiled at Johan's comment, not entirely sure how to take it. She narrowed her eyes and pursed her lips. Before turning and grinning at Beranhond.
"Should I correct some of the elements of your story?" She asked.
He quickly shook his head. "Oh, no, they don't need all the details."

  5. Violet chuckled at Darvin's comment about magic users, "You do realize that magic users are more than half the party now, right?"

She added to Evelaen, "It is good to see you again. Your help was invaluable, and I look forward to working with you again. May I say that you seem much more comfortable in your own skin than you did when last I saw you. I am not in 'the business' any more, but if you need someone to 'check in' on your husband, let me know. I'm sure I coulf find a 'friend' of mine who would be willing to help you out." She finished with a mischievous smile.

  6. Nym was suddenly aware that she was exhausted. She had intended to come into Baldur's Gate, rent a room, take a bath, and go to sleep. Instead, she ended up at a dinner party on a ship with no bath or sleep to speak of. "Well, today's been weird," she thought, looking around the table sleepily.

Nym smiled and said, "It had been lovely to see you all, but I'm afraid I am in much need of a night's sleep after quite a long time on the road. Shall we meet again tomorrow to head toward Daggerford? Perhaps meet at Odin's shop?"

To Odin, she said, "I've heard tell from Madam Tora Mim that you have some medicinal herbs from the south for a reasonable price, and I'd be interested in talking business in the morning if Tora's information is accurate."
