On the Road Again

After a half hour of searching Johan found Nym drinking tea with the off duty guards in a well known watering hold near the main guard house. She had two more cups before agreeing to join Johan and meet with the rest of the Lady Narath Company that evening.

Darvin spent most of the afternoon examining the plans to repair the Lady Narath. Fortunately, the shipwrights in the city had a good idea of what was needed to restore the Lady Narath to shipworthiness. Shandri watched him scamper about the ship, her dark eyes examining and measuring him up.

Beranhond and Evelaen spent the afternoon putting together their gear and visiting various tailors to help gather the gear that they would need for the journey up to Daggerford.

That evening, in Odin's shop, the Lady Narath company sat around and first listened to Nym's story of defending the city. After a few minutes of feeling embarrassed and foolish for sleeping while Nym defended the city along with hapless guards the company got down to business and made final plans for leaving for Daggerford.

It's roughly 480 miles to Daggerford.

by horse: 10 days (horse rentals will cost some substantial money, but I'd be open to an argument on how you obtained them)
walking: 24 days
Ship: There aren't many trading vessels heading north or south, so you'll have a delay as you find a vessel, plus then I'd have to do some calculations on wind and such.

Your chance until Saturday to argue about the plan!

  1. Whit, about how long before the Narath will be seaworthy?

Also, Nym, I don't remember, but have you told anyone else about Nym planning on meeting Illuvaen at Daggerford?

  2. Nym not told anyone about meeting Illuvaen.

I also want to know how long the vessel will take to repair and how long it would take us to get to Daggerford once it's done.

  3. The Lady Narath won't be ready for about a month.

  4. Sorry, but am I remembering right that the missing kiddo is apparently in Daggerford? I just want to make sure I'm remembering right what quest thread was in Daggerford

  5. No, the child is at the father's cabin along the coast of the infested area.

Since the others all want to go after the treasure clues in Daggerford, Nym intends to set off on horseback early the next morning for Daggerford herself. She intends to go after the child with Illuvaen rather than finding the burial.

Also, I would like to have checked out the ship that brought the undead with the guard if possible. What is the state of that ship, and what do they plan on doing with it? If it not in terrible shape and has no owner, Nym might pursue how she could gain ownership of it with the possibility of taking it north to retrieve the child. Perhaps the baroness would even fund purchasing the ship on Nym's behalf since it would be used to get her child back?

  6. Both locations are near Daggerford - the cabin is north of Daggerford in between Daggerford and the ruins of Waterdeep.

The ship has been impounded by the city. It is in terrible shape and will need restoration as well. The sails and masts are in poor shape as the undead appeared to have mostly used rowing power to move about the sea. One advantage of being undead is that you can row all night. This has given the undead a bit of tactical advantage compared to most of the merchant and naval fleets of the region.

If Nym is planning on making her own way she could probably find passage north - no one appears to be stopping at Daggerford but they don't really tell Nym why.

Odin and Violet have arranged horses for everyone else who will be leaving shortly.

  7. Johan would like to tag along with Nym, if at all possible. He's feeling more than a little guilty for basically dragging her to a ball and abandoning her to be attacked by undead, although he would never frame his feelings at the moment in those words.

Of course, he also wants to get the hell out of Dodge before the Syndicate pin him down literally or metaphorically to have Mr. Shadow talk his ear off, but that little nugget of info will be omitted if Nym asks.

  8. Nym is surprised that Johan wants to join her to collect a missing child. She knows he's not one to care much for a distressed mother and missing child.

Johan, what's your bluff roll? If Johan beats Nym's insight, she assumes he's coming with her because he doesn't want to dig up dead bodies because 1. it's gross, and 2. he is technically dead so that might be weird for him. If Johan does not beat her insight, she notes his guilty behavior but says nothing.

Nym will also inform the others that she plans to go after the missing child, so there is no reason for them to go together since their goals are different. She is uninterested in any arguments that might be presented for traveling together as she is eager to get away from the group as seeing them is very stressful for her. She does not mention she is currently planning to also head to Daggerford to meet with Illuvaen before heading to the Baron's cabin.

While asking around about a ship to Daggerford, she will try to find out why sailors are avoiding Daggerford.

She will try harder to find a ship willing to drop her, and possibly the others too, off at Daggerford and/or convince someone to do so.

  9. Oh goodness, Johan could convince a lich to buy skin moisturizer with his Bluff skills :D

    Bluff(+26): Rolled a 1, so 27.

...Apparently the dice roller heard my gloating.

  10. Nym, assuming that Johan doesn't want to dig up dead bodies, accepts his offer to join him. The rest of the group, saddened, but understanding, accepts and wishes them well.

That afternoon she manages to book a ride aboard a small sloop called Vrilnam Shahasa, which roughly translates as 'rock hard abs.' They were able to bring two passengers along and were willing to drop her outside daggerford via dinghy, but no closer. None of the other vessels were able or willing to bring so many passengers on board and thus the rest of the party was left to their own devices.

The captain of the Rock Hard Abs, Senor Pasta, was unwilling to speak about Daggerford while in the harbor, but said he'd be more willing to talk once they were on route.

  11. Assuming we're under way then, Johan is going to press the captain about what makes him so reluctant to speak of Daggerford:

    Diplomacy(+16): Rolled 8, so 24.

  12. I also want to ask about Daggerford with Johan.
