The Unlikely Captain

"Still feeling a bit green eh?" Darvin asked his new elven friend, Talathel.

The tsunami had been unlike anything Darvin had ever seen before. A towering wall of water had threatened to crush their tiny ship and all passengers on it. When he first saw it, Darvin, immediately questioned his decision about taking the ship's passage to Baldur's Gate instead of trekking there by foot. And by the looks of his traveling companion, Talathel was too.

The elf had been a great help during the mad dash to safe water. He was quick and responsive when Darvin yelled out orders and he seemed to have a natural ability to tie seafaring knots.

Darvin, on the other hand, had completely taken over the deck. The ship's acting captain had completely froze and the crew appeared to be new or were incompetent, it wasn't clear which. So, Darvin had shouted orders and manned sheets and done everything in his power to save them. And it had worked, which both amazed him and gave him great pride.

So, as Darvin was standing at the rail of the ship looking out onto the sea he peeked back at his companion who had been wretching over the side since the tsunami had passed. Darvin smiled and shook his head and decided he had stumbled upon a very good new friend.

As the ship pulled into Baldur's Gate, it occurred to him that his adventure was about to begin and he couldn't wait to get it started.
