The Inn

The rope ladder wasn't all that difficult to climb, although Darvin attempted to slip off several times. However, you managed to catch him before he slipped too far. The ladder led up to a porch with several benches and a door. When you step through the door you find yourself in a richly decorated room covered with wood panneling, paintings of old dead white guys, and several bust of oddly shaped elephants. There is a reception desk made from marble and behind it sits a beauitful woman with shoulder length red hair, large green eyes, and most importantly for you Talathel, elven ears poking out.
"Why hello handsome!" The woman says. "My name is Miss Stake. Welcome to the High Flying Inn. Are you a member of the mile high club?"

In his mind, Talathel was wondering about whether or not Lailsan was still among the living, the same dimensional plane as he was, or...he squinted a bit...nah, she looks a bit like Lailsan, but that'd be much to weird. He then shook his head as if to give himself a fresh start in the conversation.

"My friend here, Darvin, has been seriously injured and requires medical attention. Could you boil some water for us?"

  2. "I will have some sent up to the room... I certainly hope you plan on staying the night." She said pulling out a card. "As for the mile high club, for each nights stay you can earn rewards such as back massages, breakfast, and more nights at any inn that is a member of our flying inn co-op."

  3. "That sounds very lovely, Miss Stake, but for the time being I will concentrate on getting my friend healed..."

Talathel turned and started to walk away, but then could not resist.

"But, if you'd like to tell me more about this...Mile High Club...perhaps we can get together later."

  4. "Certainly... I work late tonight." She says. "You are in room 12, please just sign here and take your room key. Some boiling water will be sent up in just a moment. There are two large beds in there so you should be quite comfortable. If not, just let me know."

  5. Talathel carries Darvin into Room 12 he laid him down on one bed and then sat on the one across from it. He waited for the others to come begin the healing.

As you climb up the ladder and enter the Inn you see a marble clad room filled with ornate statues of some form of art. Behind a desk sits a young woman. "Hello!" The woman says. "My name is Miss Stake. Welcome to the High Flying Inn. Are you a member of the mile high club?"

    ReplyDelete
  7. While letting Pipper down and checking the medicines, Nym replied, "No, I'm not a member of the mile high club, but I'm looking for an elf, half-elf, and monkey who should have checked in just a bit ago." She smiled at Miss Stake.

  11. "Thank you!" said Nym as she sprinted upstairs to find room 12. When she did, she threw open the door without knocking and went right over to Darvin. "Have the brought the water? asked Nym as she unwrapped Darvin's wounds and examined them.

Hearing no immediate response, Nym looked up to see the inn had sent up boiling water. "Ah, good," she said, not even acknowledging Talathel and Guybrush. She poured the green stuff in the boiling water and stirred it until it dissolved into a liquidy paste. Nym carried the mixture over to Darvin and slathered it onto his wounds and then force-fed the rest of the mixture to him. She also force-fed some of the clear liquid pain-reliever to him before pulling out the needle and thread to sew closed the worst of his wounds. After this, she turned to Talathel and said, "Go ask if the inn has any clean cloth scraps we can use to bandage Darvin and ask for a bowl of cool water." After this command, she turned back to Darvin to inspect his wounds further.

  13. Druuv:
You easily climb up the ladder and walk inside the Inn. The walls and furniture all appear to be made of ice sheets and a young elven woman sits behind a desk.
"Hello! My name is Miss Stake. Welcome to the High Flying Inn. Are you a member of the mile high club?"

    ReplyDelete
  14. Talathel heads back down the stairs.

"Ah, Miss Stake...sorry to bother you so soon..."

"Not a problem," she said with a warm, elven smile. Talathel glanced down at the floor. "How is the patient?"

"Nym is doing her best, he is in good hands. Might I trouble you and the inn for some clean cloth scraps to use as bandages and a bowl of cool water?"

    Nym:
Your stitches are nice and tight and the green paste is spread evenly. After a moment you can tell that the bleeding has stopped. His face isn't as clammy as it was before and his body as generally become more relaxed. The stitches do need t o be cover, but it appears that in this situation you didn't even need a fancy-shmancy divine healer who talks to cats!

    Darvin:
You can come back to consciousness after a bout 30 minutes or so. You will be thirsty, groggy and tired, but could probably communicate. If you try to move around too much you will re-injure yourself.

  17. When the water and cloth is brought up, Nym thanks the worker and brings them over to Darvin's bed. She gently wraps his wounds and pours some of the water into glasses. She takes one of the remaining rags and dips it in the cool water to place on Darvin's forehead to keep his temperature down. Nym then pulls a chair up to Darvin's bed to watch over him and Pipper curls up by her feet to sleep.

  19. Am I coming in before or after Talathel comes back down the stairs?

"Ahh, yes. I am a member of the club. Joined about a year ago. I believe I have my identification here somewhere..." Druuv begins rummaging through the belt pouch on her left hip, pulling out random bits of metal and stones, and several pieces of glass.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Druuv: Shoot... you are in the entryway just moments before Talathel comes down the stairs and concurrent to Nym finishing up the stitches. Somehow on the way to the room you either got confused and went to room 21, or decided to not interrupt her while she finished the procedure. Or something else along those lines. You can enter as soon as she sits down after having wrapped up the wounds.

Talathel: "Well, this village has some interesting sites and places to visit. Where are you from originally?"

    ReplyDelete
  21. Talathel, out of habit mostly, pulled up a bar stool and rested his hands on the counter. "I am from Seacomber originally, where I was a monk with The Old Order. Recently, I have been traveling with my companions. We have visited Baldur's Gate, Watersdeep, and Silverymoon."

The elf looked at Miss Stake for any signs of recognition of the names.

    ReplyDelete
  22. "You were a monk...?" she says with a slight stammer to her voice. She looks around nervously "how did you escape? I haven't heard anyone escape from the monastery before. I also haven't heard of any of those places - are they on the other side of the plane?"

    ReplyDelete
  23. Talathel leaned back a bit as if to give him more space to consider the two bewildering statements Miss Stake just made.

"First off, I did not escape the monastery. But more importantly...what plane?"

Talathel was very nervous now. He was sure he was now in a foreign place, and Miss Stake made it seem like being a former monk made him to be some sort of fugitive.

    ReplyDelete
  24. She looked confused "Well, the only monks I have ever heard of are the Xladha order who work on behalf of the shadowcasters. As for the plane... it is where you are right now! It stretches from the shining ocean to the ice peaks. However, there is said to be another part of the world that is on the other side of our plane. However, I am not the one to ask about this - if you want some more answers I would go and ask Professor Hii Gnowe."

    ReplyDelete
  25. "I know nothing of the Xladha order, nor the shadowcasters. I think I shall go see Professor Gnowe and ask him some questions. Can you tell me where to find him?"

    ReplyDelete
  26. "Yes, he is on the outskirts of the village... don't wander too far though. If you leave the boundaries of the city it will be hard to find ti again." She looks around again and whispers "watch what you say - this place is beautiful and wonderful, but spies of the shadowcasters are everywhere."

    ReplyDelete
  27. "Thank you for your help." Talathel gets up and heads back up to the room. Nym is still at work healing Darvin.

"Nym, I don't mean to bother you, but you may be more inclined to know about this than I would. What is the Xladha order? I have not heard of them, but they appear to be working with shadowcasters. All of this is over my head, but you're more magically inclined."

    ReplyDelete
  28. Druuv headed to room 21 and sat down on a very comfy chair, thinking that her friends must all be using the bathroom or something...

    ReplyDelete
  29. Druuv: After a few minutes a wandering maid steps into room 21.
"Can I help you sir?" he asks.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Nym's brow furrowed as she looked up at Talathel. "Shadowcasters, hmm," she muttered and stopped to think about this for a moment. "Thank you for having the water sent up," she said as she thought. "I remember something about shadowcasters from school, but it's been years since I learned about them... Generally anyone associated with the plane of shadows, though, is someone to avoid. Of course who knows what they're like here. This world seems very different from our own." Nym raised an eyebrow thinking about this, but then seemed to forget all about shadowcasters and darkness. She smiled and said, "Darvin's looking much better. I should expect him to awake any time now." Nym resumed sitting in the chair by Darvin's bed, "I think we're in another plane, so the ship and crew are probably just fine! I talked to a woman near the apothecary who said she could help us find our way back to Faerun. I have to do some errands, though, for the apothecary first since she didn't want the ruby as payment. Have you seen Druuv? She might be really useful since she lives here. I think...." Nym continued chattering away, relieved that her other friends were likely not dead and Darvin would be alright.

    ReplyDelete
  31. "Since you have errands to run, I shall go visit with someone who may be able to help us as well. The more information the better. Be weary on your travels, Nym. According to the hostess here, spies of the shadowcasters are everywhere."

He bid his companions farewell and went back to the tavern. He got directions from Miss Stake to visit Professor Gnowe. Along the way he tried not to bring attention to himself. "They're are elves here, just act normal and people will think little of you." he thought to himself.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Druuv responds, "I am waiting for the people that have this room. I think they're in the bathroom." She smiled at the man.

    ReplyDelete
  33. "Um, no one is checked into this room right now." He quickly looks at the door number. "There is someone in room 12 though, is that where you meant to go?"

    ReplyDelete
  34. "Darvin, stop napping and awaken! There is much pirate like behavior to be done!" The ring says into your ears. As you open your eyes you feel a dull pain in your side.

    ReplyDelete
  35. "Oh! Well, that might be the case! Thanks for helping me find the right place!" And with this little rhyme, Druuv hopped up and skipped down the hallway to peer into the room where Darvin and Nym were. Am I caught up with them time-wise, then?

    ReplyDelete
  36. yes, but after Talathel has left - he is on his way to the professor's house right now

    ReplyDelete
  37. Now that things had finally calmed down a bit for Nym, she took note that she was wearing a now rather short nightgown with a ragged hem. She didn't mind being shoeless since she had grown up a bit of a wild thing in the High Forest, but the nightgown issue was annoying to her. She tried to smooth the torn hem to no avail and then impatiently continued watching for any sign Darvin was waking.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Druuv peaked into the room. "I could help you fix that, if you'd like." She gave a huge grin, at being possibly of use to Nym.

    ReplyDelete
  39. "Druuv! I thought we'd lost you somewhere in town!" Nym smiled at the goblin and then looked down at her gown and back up at Druuv. Yes, I think I might need some help," she said, still smiling.

    ReplyDelete
  40. "I just got lost once I got here. Room 21 is quite nice, though." Again, she smiled, and hopped over to take a look at Darvin. "How is he?" She picked up his arm and dropped it over his face, seeing if he'd catch it.

A note that Druuv is back to her normal, just under 3' height again.

    ReplyDelete
  41. At having his arm land on his face, Darvin awoke, "We're under attack! Batten down the hatches! Prepare to come about! And who in the hell just hit me in the face!?" Darvin shouted. He apparently didn't remember where he was.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Nym laughed and leaned over Darvin, gently pushing him back down on the bed so he wouldn't burst his stitches. "We're most definitely not under attack and you hit yourself in the face, Captain," she said, smiling mischievously. She glanced to Druuv, winked, and then looked back to Darvin. "How are you feeling?" she asked as she offered him a glass of water.

    ReplyDelete
  43. you will still feel quite weakened and you are still down your hitpoints as her concoction can't restore that. However, I have a suspicion there will be a plethora of healing potions around.

    ReplyDelete
  44. "Well, aside from my nose hurting, and my side throbbing and being led to think that you were leaning into kiss me. I suppose I am just peachy." Darvin took the glass of water and took a drink.

    ReplyDelete
  45. "You're upset because this pretty woman was leaning in to kiss you?" Druuv said, a look of shocked innocence on her face. "That's not very nice." Turning to Nym, she said, "I'd be happy if you were leaning in to kiss me." She looked very earnest, and then giggled before looking back at Darvin. "I'm glad you're awake again! It's about time."

    ReplyDelete
  46. Nym laughed and checked Darvin's bandages once more. "I have to return to the apothecary to repay her for your medicine," she said to Darvin. Nym then turned to Druuv and asked, "Could you stay here and watch over Darvin while I'm gone? I wouldn't want him to hurt himself again." She turned back to him and smiled. When Druuv nodded yes, Nym said goodbye for a bit and returned to the apothecary.

    ReplyDelete
  49. "Hobgoblin, am I! We'll see about that!" Druuv shouted, "Gobblety goably! A wart-less toady!" and gestured at Darvin's chest, where a small, brightly colored frog appeared.

"Now lay still, and I will not tell Herbert to attack you. Good Herbert." She smiled at the frog, before turning her ire back at Darvin, "I happen to be an arctic goblin, thank you very much! The hobs are a pitiful excuse for goblins if there ever was one, and I will hear you take it back!"

    ReplyDelete
  50. By the way, the poisonous frog is a fiendish frog, because she's angry.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Darvin stared at the frog on his chest. It stared back. It looked harmless enough but Darvin had remembered what that giant worm had done to him, so he wasn't about to take any chances.

"I had no idea there were other kinds of goblins!" stammered Darvin, "I had no frame of reference! But I do apologize. I am sorry for calling you a hobgoblin. Now can you please tell this frog to hop away?"

    ReplyDelete
  52. Sorry those last two posts were as The Music Dan. It won't happen again.

    ReplyDelete
  53. "Alright. I accept your apology. Herbert, come here." The frog hopped on Druuv's hand, then to her shoulder, then to her head.

"Well, Placid is the name of the town." Druuv offered, to answer Darvin's earlier question. "Would you like me to write it down? I am not an expert on their history. I only pass through this place, so it's still mostly a mystery. To me, at least." Druuv said. She was again smiling, happy to be helpful again.

    ReplyDelete
  54. "I can tell you about the mountains to the east. That's where I'm from, though you may like it the least." Druuv offered, when Darvin paused a second, running her words through his head again.

    ReplyDelete
  55. "No thank you. There is no need for that. What is the whole of this place called? This world or dimension?" Darvin asked.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Druuv shrugs her shoulders. "We just call it 'home.'"

    ReplyDelete
  57. "What is the place you come from called?" Druuv asked, looking more serious.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Darvin realized that they had asked Druuv many times where they were and never once offered an explanation as to who they were or where they came from. And she had never asked and still helped them. This is a quality that was rare where he came from.

"I am from a town called Secomber. But it is in Faerun. What do you do here?"

    ReplyDelete
  59. "I'm a miner," Druuv said, gesturing with her heavy pick. "What do you do?"

    ReplyDelete
  60. "I am...was...the captain of a ship," Darvin said with a heavy sigh, "What sort of things do you mine?"

    ReplyDelete
  61. "Well, we mostly mine for aluminum, titanium, and platinum. They're pretty abundant."

Druuv offered this, but was obviously not that interested in talking about mining. "You're a captain! Tell me about it! Have you gone on any adventures? What seas have you sailed on? How large is the crew? What makes your ship go?" She was breathless as she finally stopped long enough to eagerly await his answer.

    ReplyDelete
  62. "We went on a few adventures. The crew was about 20 people strong. We only sailed on the Sea of Swords, but I had plans of sailing on many others. And the ship, The Lady Narath , was powered by the wind. What are the ships around here powered by?" asked Darvin.

    ReplyDelete
  63. "Well, we mostly row along the rivers. I saw a couple boats pulled by oxen once, and I've seen people use poles, too. Not many navigate the larger waters. It's been a long time since I've seen a real ship..." Druuv was lost in thought for a moment, until Darvin started to speak, when she piped back up, "What does Nym do?"

    ReplyDelete
  64. At this question Darvin let out a huge sigh, "Well, she mostly drives me crazy to the point that I do stupid thing without thinking about them. But I suppose you would like her vocation, and that is a sorceress and herbalist."

    ReplyDelete
  65. "What's a vocation?" Druuv asked, a bit puzzled.

    ReplyDelete
  66. "Why don't you just call it a job, then?"

    ReplyDelete
  67. "Why not use profession, then? Or occupation?"

    ReplyDelete
  68. This conversation is only around 6:00 PM, so Talathel has yet to arrive.

    ReplyDelete
  69. "Oooh! I have an idea! I will try to draw a map!" With this, Druuv walked to the wall, and started drawing with her finger, leaving a colored map on the wall. (Prestidigitation) It was very crude, and showed as she drew, things kept moving around on the map, making it very difficult to figure out exactly what was being shown. Darvin noticed the shadowcasters' tower stayed where it was, though the village they were in did not, and much of the landscape moved around independently of the things around it.

"Um...Kilink is the name of our adventuring band. Previous to that we were known as the "Heroes of the Sewer" which just didn't seem very pleasant. Talathel, I'm not sure when Nym will be back, she said she had some errands to do for the apothecary. You may try looking for her there." Darvin said to his companions.

Druuv didn't seem especially interested in seeking out Nym. As they were talking, she began walking around the room and peeked into the bathroom. "Oh! You have a bath?! Can I use it? I haven't taken a bath in forever!" Druuv's tongue was hanging out a little bit as she panted slightly, excited by the prospect of the bath.

When Darvin said yes, Druuv ran over and gave him a big hug (which he had to get on his knees to return) and a kiss on the cheek. She seemed especially happy that he would let her bathe in his bathroom, and hopped over to the bathroom before Darvin could change his mind, closing the door behind her.

The bath will take us until Talathel shows up. The frog will definitely be gone by then, but when Talathel shows up, Nym will be happily swinging on a rope strung from the window to the bathroom door.
