The Village 2

As you leave the hotel and climb on back down the ladder you find that most of the buildings have changed colors and that the square is full of people who nod politely as you pass. You follow Miss Stake's directions out to Gnowe's house and find that it looks like an overtly large nest with an oak door set into its side. As you knock you hear some rustling inside.
"Hoo hoo is out there?"

  1. "My name is Talathel Braegen, I am here to see Professor Gnowe. Is he in?"

  2. "Come in, come in." The voice.
As you step inside you see a human-sized owl sitting on a branch mounted to.
"My name is Hii. What can I dooo dooo for youuu?" It says slightly hooting.

  3. "Ah yes. I was traveling with friends off the Western coast of Faerun and we've ended up here. We don't know where we are and I was told that maybe you could help supply some answers."

  4. "Faerun? Where might that be?" He flies over and pulls down a map with his beak. "I haven't heard of that, could you point to it on this map please?"

  5. The map was not of Faerun. It did not appear to be the most detailed of maps, but Faerun's coastline and major landmarks were absent.

"I'm afraid this map is not of my world. I don't suppose you get this question often, but...where are we? What is this place called?"

  6. The professor turned its head and looked at you oddly.
"Not of your world... hmmm... when and how did you arrive here... what was the thing you did right before you arrived here?"

  7. "I was aboard a ship. We had just set sail from the port of Watersdeep. I was asleep when suddenly there was a crash. My friends and I awoke on the beach. Some of our companions were missing, our ship was nowhere to be seen."

  8. "I'd think this were all insane," Talathel said to himself. "But, I'm talking to a human sized owl, so what do I know at this point."

    ReplyDelete
  9. EDIT: Talathel thinks that to himself, it was not spoken aloud.

  11. The owl turns its head still looking at you while you think.

  12. Talathel takes the man-owl's At least its not a Manbearpig. silence as a que to think aloud.

"There were others on the ship. But, only three of us and two animals ended up here. So, its not as if we sailed into a gateway to another plane. Something must have brought us here. Perhaps they chose us for a reason."

Author's note: if Talathel sees a lighthouse, he will destroy its mirror. I told you there'd be more LOST references.

  13. "Well... so only part of your companions arrived here?" It walked back and forth in an owl pace. "Well, somehow you crossed the plane from your world to this one. Yet, why only you arrived escaped me. So you didn't see anyone do anything to you right before you arrived?"

  14. "No. I was in the crow's nest of our ship. Beranhond, one of our crew who is not on this plane, had taken the helm. I meditated and then heard a crash and woke up on the beach."

Talathel replayed the last bit of his time on the Lady Narath in his head.

  15. "Darvin was asleep...Nym was asleep...I was meditating...so, I guess we've established a pattern at the least."

Talathel felt that this should have been apparent sooner, but with all the commotion of the crash landing and the fight with the worm, Killink, or at least its slumbering members, had not been able to compare notes.

  16. "You all came here in your sleep?" The owl looked quite worried now. "That is a bad sign." It flew over and started shutting windows before flying back down.
"Legend has said that this land used to be the realm of dreams - that all the possibilities created by those whooo whooo dreamed came here tooo tooo reside. However, long ago it split off and became its own land while the descendants of the original dreams made their own way in this new world. However..." It trailed off and flew back up to peak out the window. "... it could be tidings of a very foul sort."

  17. Talathel was wondering who would dream of a giant purple worm, but tried to put that thought out of his head.

"Foul tidings..." Talathel tried to show his concern, but was just really trying to figure out a way to get back to his realm. "How can we find out for sure why we're here...and is it possible to get back?"

  18. "I do not know why you are here, but since you were all at rest and open to being brought here it suggests that someone summoned you here. As for who has that power... I fear it is either the work of the monastery or the shadowcasters, and may Oerith have mercy on you if it is either one of them."

    ReplyDelete
  19. "I take it that they would be the only ones with a way to send us back as well?"

    ReplyDelete
  20. "One would hope not... but if they brought you here than most likely they could send you back. However, it is possible that there is another way... but I am not too well versed on this stuff, so I can't really help you out there."

    ReplyDelete
  21. Talathel did not like the sound of that.

"Is there anyone that can help us, or are we at the whim of the shadowcasters?"

    ReplyDelete
  22. "I will see what I can doo doo. Right now, return to where you are staying and don't draw too much attention to yourself. I will send some more appropriate clothing along and see if I can make contact with one of my friends who is more knowledgeable about this sort of thing."

  23. Talathel bids Professor Gnowe good-bye and heads back to the inn. Miss Stake greets him as he enters.

"Did you find what you were looking for?"

Talathel shrugged, "Somewhat. I now know...kind of, where we are." He looked at Miss Stake's perfect elven ears and emerald green eyes. "It certainly explains a lot."

    ReplyDelete
  24. "Well, it isn't a bad place to be, but do be careful."

  25. Talathel headed back up to the room. He found Darvin to be awake, which was a relief. He also found a strange frog that was hopping about the room, which at this point, didn't bother him as much as it normally might have.
