Village

As your leap across the fire the scenery shimmers and changes to that of a small town or large village. As you move away from the large fire in the central of the square you see several taller buildings growing and shrinking seemingly at will. Beneath your feet the cobblestones change colors as you step on them. Standing in the doorway of several of the buildings are a mixture of humans, elves, dwarves, and many unrecognizable species, wearing a mixture of bright pink dresses, yellow coats, and some clad in only a barrel. In a nook of a two buildings you see what looks to be a naked man standing in a pool of water. There are four cobblestone roads leading away from the square.

  1. Nym raised an eyebrow at the growing/shrinking buildings. "Well, that's certainly not a smart way to make a building..." She turned to Druuv, "Do you know where we could find an apothecary and an inn?"

    ReplyDelete
  2. As soon as you finishing asking about the Inn and Apothecary you what appears looks to be a broom handle sprout legs and start to walk across the square in your direction.

    ReplyDelete
  3. It continues to walk closer and closer to you seemingly oblivious to your presence. When it is within five feet of you it is seems that it plans to walk right through you.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Oblivious to the broom handle, Druuv begins pointing, using her long arms to advantage. "Of course, umm, I'm not sure I got your name. What is it again? Anyway, the Apothecary is that way." She pointed to the west. "The inn is that way," Druuv said, pointing south. "Why do you want to know about the inn?"

    ReplyDelete
  5. The walking broom handle runs smack dab into Druuv.
"Excuse me!" It replied imperiously. "Don't you know better than to get out of the way of a walking stick?

    ReplyDelete
  6. "Oh! Sorry about that!" Druuv said, stepping aside, and rubbing her head. The broom handle was twice her height, and that had rather hurt.

2 points of nonlethal damage to Druuv okay?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Sounds good.

The stick huffed and continued walking on its way.

    ReplyDelete
  8. "Well I can think of a real good reason to check an inn, but first thing's first, we need to get Darvin some help. Let's go to the Apothecary."

    ReplyDelete
  9. Surprisingly cool-headed, Nym turns to Talathel and Guybrush, "Take Darvin to the inn and have them boil water and bring it to the room. I'll go to the apothecary and meet you at the inn!" As she is only in a nightgown, Nym takes some money off Darvin for the apothecary, puts Pipper down, and runs off toward the apothecary. As she begins off, she yells back to Druuv, "My name's Nym; nice to meet you!"

    ReplyDelete
  10. Sorry to burst your bubble... as I commented before you do not have any money on you.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Did any of your grab the jewels in the worm?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Sure. What the hell. We plundered the corpse of the dramatic death worm so I run off with some jewels. :P

    ReplyDelete
  13. Sounds good - there were four large gems (about the size a football). One was a ruby, another was an emerald, and the last two were sapphires.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Guybrush shruggs his shoulders.
"How are we supposed to get a room at the inn if we do not have any money mr. monk?" He asks.

    ReplyDelete
  15. "If Nym would be so kind as to toss me one of those gems, we should be ok. That said, lets see if they'll tend to a dying man out of their own generosity. The one native we've met seems to be compassionate."

Talathel grabs Darvin by the shoulders and begins and waits for Guybrush to pick up the half-elf's feet.

  16. I wish I had a knowledge skill of some sort. I really wanted to investigate those gems. I know!

Druuv grabbed a gem from the worm. She now uses Detect Magic on it.

  17. You grabbed one of the smaller gems. It is a diamond and there is a light magical flavor about it.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Darvin, as you float in the unconscious neverworld you hear a voice coming from your hand.
"Ahoy Darvin. How have you been and where have you taken me?" (in a scottish brogue I do not feel like writing in).

    ReplyDelete
  19. Does the gem respond to being placed next to other magic items?

Druuv takes the gem and rubs it on her magic ring and magic rope.

  20. How the ring was communicating with him in his unconscious state Darvin will never know but Darvin still managed to respond.

"Well, Captain, a giant worm with teeth has chomped on me and I have absolutely no idea where we are."

Hey, at least he's not braindead...

    ReplyDelete
  21. Druuv:
    Nothing seems to happen.

    Darvin:
"Hmmm... well, it certainly is an odd place at that. How did you get here, what were you doing before you got here?"

    ReplyDelete
  22. "I have no idea how we got here. I was asleep in my cabin. Then I woke up on a beach in this weird place and was wounded by a large, monologuing worm," said Darvin.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The ring is silent for a moment. "Where was everybody else? I notice that the head slapping cleric isn't with you."

    ReplyDelete
  24. "I have no idea. I'm going to go back to being unconscious now," Darvin informed the Ring and then subconsciously slumped over.

  25. Nym: As you go on exit the main square you see six row-house style building with signs in front of them. Beyond them you see the street stretching on to a series of smaller single family homes. Beyond that you see an immense tower stretching high into the sky.
As you look closer at the signs you see:
    An onion bulb
    A large pipe
    A green eyeball
    Three pink goats
    An ingot
    a blank sign

    ReplyDelete
  26. Druuv walks over to the naked man in the pool of water. "How warm is the water? Is it cooler or is it hotter?" She asks him.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Nym frowns, looking at the signs, and heads to the shop with the green eyeball sign. "At least I can just ask which shop is the apothecary..." she mutters to herself. Pipper follows quietly behind her.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Druuv:
"Quite cool. I am glad too! I never enjoy the winter months when the water gets too hot." His expression changes and he looks slightly sick. "Just a moment..." He pulls back his head and shoots a column of water into the air.

    Nym:
When you step inside the green eyeball shop you see rows and rows of books, scrolls, as well as random glass and clay jars. As the door shuts behind you the lights suddenly go out and a single table and hooded figure appears.
"I can help you Nym." The figure says.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I didn't make that entirely clear:

The entire room blackens, but a single table and hooded figure in the center of the room appear. They are lit, even though you are not able to see the source of the light.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Nym stand still for a moment, surprised, before composing herself. "Well, that's good. Are you the apothecary? How do you know my name?" Pipper stands between her legs looking uncertain.

    ReplyDelete
  31. "No, I am not Miss Common Scents." The voice responds. "She is in the building with the green onion. I also know you are not from this world and I can help you to leave - but first get the items you need to help your friend and then come back and I will help as I am able."

    ReplyDelete
  32. Druuv quickly casts Enlarge Person, making herself the same height as the humans around. She takes the gem out and shows it to the man. "Do you know what this is?"

    ReplyDelete
  33. The nude man holds out his hand and singles to wait a moment. As you wait you see that water is still coming out of his mouth, through the air, and back into the pool by his feet.

    ReplyDelete
  34. "Thank you! I'll be back as soon as I can," said Nym to the cloaked woman. With that, she and Pipper sprinted out the door and over to the shop with the onion sign.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Nym: When you open the door to the onion shop you see what appears to be a pleasant meadow. As you step inside the door you feel soft grass beneath your feet and a fresh sweet smell of nature. Birds chirp on a log a short way away and Pipper has to restrain himself from running off and chasing them.
From behind a tree a female centaur steps out. "Hello." She says appraisingly "you are clearly a lover of nature yourself - it shows on your face. What can I help you with child?"

    ReplyDelete
  36. Druuv: After a moment the man stops spitting the water. "It looks like a diamond, but I can't tell you anything more about it."

    ReplyDelete
  37. Nym smiled and thought, despite the drama-worm, this plane is wonderfully surprising. She replied to the centaur, "My friends and I were attacked by a giant worm outside the village. One of my friends was badly injured and I need herbs to clean his wounds, slow or stop the bleeding, and ease his pain. I also need a needle and thread to close his wounds."

    ReplyDelete
  38. "Hmm. A diamond. Fun!" Druuv looked at the stone contentedly, then tucked it into her belt pouch.

"Where is the blacksmith? I know I remembered them being around here somewhere..."

    ReplyDelete
  39. The Centaur pursed her lips for a moment. "What did the bite wounds look like, what colors? Did it look poisoned at all?"

(Please roll both your heal and your knowledge nature and then I will fill in what you saw when you looked at his wounds).

  41. "Black Smiths!" He said quietly but angrily. "Are you trying to cause problems!" Looking around he seemed relieved that no one had noticed. "There hasn't been a family of the dark side of the Smith line in this town for years. The last one was the young Tom Smith who used to live here, but he went to work for the Shadowmaster's in the tower some time ago."

    ReplyDelete
  42. Nym: The bleeding had started slowing down, but it was still not clotting properly. Some worms and snakes have saliva that can contain an anticoagulant. Such things can be taken care of by divine healing, but when they are not available the best advice is to find a coagulant. Plants high in Vitamin K are known for this, and you know to look for medicinal items based on mustard greens or kale.
It did not look poisonous and it had yet to turn any different colors.

    ReplyDelete
  43. "The wound does not look poisoned - it is normal colored - but the bleeding is not slowing properly," Nym told the centaur.

    ReplyDelete
  44. "Well... that is not a good sign." She said frowning before turning around opening up a tree to take out some jars. "What species, sex, gender, and temperament is your friend? Any allergies?"

    ReplyDelete
  45. "He's human, male... male again, and a hot-headed romantic. I don't think he has any allergies," replied Nym.

    ReplyDelete
  46. "Ok, this should be the right batch for a human male, gendered man, and a hot-headed romantic." She said scopping a green substance plopping it in a small jar. "Boil it up and apply some directly to the wound and have him swallow the rest. This should help with the bleeding." She moved across the room to another tree trunk, opened it, and pulled out a small bottle. "This will help with the pain." She said pouring it into a small vial. "And here is the needle and thread." She wraps up the vial and bottle in paper and puts it in a small paper bag for you. "I can tell that you are not from around here, so I suspect you might not have any means of proper payment. But go now and take care of your friend. Come back when you are done and I shall let you repay your debt by fulfilling a few errands I need done."

    ReplyDelete
  47. Talathel: After asking around for the inn you find it floating above the ground. A roap ladder dangles down.
(Climb check please - take a -2 for carrying Darvin, the monkey can make its own way up.)

    ReplyDelete
  48. "Thank you," said Nym. "Would this pay for the medicine?" asked Nym holding up the ruby. "If not, I'd be more than happy to run errands as payment."

    ReplyDelete
  49. The Centaur smiles "it probably could, but the market for gems right now is not the best and I would not want to have to run all over town finding someone to buy it. I would recommend saving it for a much more dire situation than this child."

    ReplyDelete
  50. LOL We can pretend I said half-elf.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Ah... but you didn't... that is an area in which I am going to have what you originally said stand. It probably shouldn't be a big deal...

    ReplyDelete
  52. Nym nods, thanks the centaur again promising to be back once Darvin is well, and after getting directions to the floating inn, she runs off followed by closely by Pipper.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Oh great, the woman he loves is about to administer Darvin a lethal dose of that green stuff...

    ReplyDelete
  54. (The inn you didn't know was floating yet; however it doesn't take you long to find it either - climb check please).

    ReplyDelete
  55. I wouldn't worry too much Nick, the compound she has is mostly condensed vegetables.

    ReplyDelete
  56. You're HALF human! If medicine made for humans kills half-elves, we've got bigger problems, such as how do two species too different to use the same medicine create offspring?

Nym once again ties Pipper to her back with the medicine and begins climbing the rope ladder to the inn.

  58. Not put off by the man's response, Druuv asked, "Is there a lightsmith around then?"

    ReplyDelete
  59. Before the man could answer she added, "Or a smith in general?"

    ReplyDelete
  60. Seeming a little confused. "Well, there is a jeweler, a farrier and a whitemetalworker. What type of work are you looking to get done?"

    ReplyDelete
  61. "Well, I am a metal worker myself. I thought I might try to get the metal worker to let me add a socket for this pretty gem to my hat." Druuv pulled out her hat, and showed it to the man. "How does it feel to spit out all that water all the time?"

    ReplyDelete
  62. "Well, how does it feel to breathe and walk around? In any case you would want to visit the jeweler most likely - there are several up this northeast street."

    ReplyDelete
  63. "Alright. Thank you for your help. Is there any way I can repay your kindness?" Druuv asked.

    ReplyDelete
  64. The man laughed. "No, as long as you enjoyed my company and enjoyed the fountain it is payment enough! However, make sure to not mention any words of "smith" to anyone. That could lead to some bad ends for you and your friends."

    ReplyDelete
  65. "Thank you. I will make sure not to!" Turning, Druuv was about to continue on to the jeweler, but then realized Nym and the other two people she'd just met were nowhere to be seen, and headed off to the inn to see if they were in trouble again.
