Talathel enters the lobby of the hotel. Miss Stake is behind the counter, but she seems to be helping someone. The elf slips past them, not making eye contact. If she wanted to say something, she was unable to because the patron was arguing over a bill. Talathel allowed himself a brief smile before venturing back outside. He took a deep breath of fresh air and set out for Professor Gnowe's nest.
As you return to the Hii Gnowe's house he ushers you in quickly. "Now, I have two options for you." It says. "One option is to fight your way into the tower of the Shadowcasters and use their gate." It spins its head and looks "the other option is to travel to the monastery and use their dream gate."
"Well." It hoots for a moment. "The monastery used to be a light and happy place, but sadly they have long since turned to evil. They are masters of combat, some call them sword dancers, masters of the blade. Lots of stuff about blades and such." Hii trails off...
Hii shrugs his shoulders "maybe? This is all very hypothetical, you could ask the half-elves in the woods or the goblins in the east. Crossing planes is no simple matter though. Either of the gates would be the easiest, so perhaps you could enlist some help in getting inside?" He stared off into the distance. "I guess you could try to build your own gate."
Talathel runs his hand through his hair, giving him a moment to think. He had only tried to lighten the mood a bit, but the man owl did not seem to be the one for lighter banter.
"I doubt it... this town isn't known for magic or magical item construction. Dream gates are fairly complex - which is why there are only two of them right now. If you are serious about this idea I could send you to someone who might have more knowledge about the requirements."
"Glad to be of assitance... now my friend Taaktu Hur lives in a northern town." He gives you vague directions to the northern village that you are not entirely able to follow. "Good luck and be safe!"

ReplyDelete"Now, I have two options for you." It says. "One option is to fight your way into the tower of the Shadowcasters and use their gate." It spins its head and looks "the other option is to travel to the monastery and use their dream gate."
Hii Gnowe flies across the room and grabs a book. "The dream gate should take you home - it is how they bring nightmares to other realms."
ReplyDeleteBlue pill, red pill?
ReplyDelete"The monastery? From what I hear, the monastery isn't a safe place. The last person I told was a monk accused me of escaping..."
"I think she said that those who work at the monastery were working with the Shadowcasters. How much safer is it to go there?"
ReplyDeleteIt turns it head... "well... they aren't quite as magical?" Hii Gnowe says.
ReplyDelete"Not exactly a ringing endorsement, professor."
ReplyDelete"Well." It hoots for a moment. "The monastery used to be a light and happy place, but sadly they have long since turned to evil. They are masters of combat, some call them sword dancers, masters of the blade. Lots of stuff about blades and such." Hii trails off...
ReplyDelete"Either fight against magic or fight against the sword."
ReplyDeleteTalathel thought about it for a moment. He sighed.
"These can't possibly be our only options. Surely there is someone that is more friendly and sympathetic that can return us to our world."
Talathel sighed again, figuring an alternative would allude him.

ReplyDeleteOOOH! I wanna build my own gate!!! :D Not sure that would be the best idea, but I really wanna try. :D
ReplyDeleteYou can supply some mystical chicken strips that will give us the strength of 10 men and the arcane knowledge of 100.
ReplyDeleteTalathel thought about it for a moment.
ReplyDelete"I have two half elves in my group, so perhaps we can find an ally with them. But...whats this about building our own gate?"
"Well, hypothetically if you had the know how I don't see why you couldn't build your own gate."
ReplyDelete"I don't suppose one of these several books you own is How to Build Your Own Dreamgate is it?"
ReplyDeleteHii Gnowes stares awkwardly at you. "No..."
ReplyDeleteTalathel runs his hand through his hair, giving him a moment to think. He had only tried to lighten the mood a bit, but the man owl did not seem to be the one for lighter banter.
ReplyDelete"Can anyone in the town help us build one?"
"I doubt it... this town isn't known for magic or magical item construction. Dream gates are fairly complex - which is why there are only two of them right now. If you are serious about this idea I could send you to someone who might have more knowledge about the requirements."
ReplyDelete"I would greatly appreciate that, Professore Gnowe. You've been a great help."
ReplyDelete"Glad to be of assitance... now my friend Taaktu Hur lives in a northern town." He gives you vague directions to the northern village that you are not entirely able to follow.
ReplyDelete"Good luck and be safe!"
"Well...er...thanks." Talathel bids the man own good-bye and heads back for the inn.
ReplyDelete"To create, or to fight. We'll see what the others think."
