To the Rendezvous!

The trip to the rendezvous is uneventful, except that Talathel decides it would be funny to tease Lailsan about going to see the elephant graveyard, and a young Loxo overhears and is very upset to be thought of as an elephant. Apparently it's a touchy subject.

When you arrive, you find a large camp, with a large central area that appears to be a gathering area. The central area is currently being used as a market of sorts, and it is filled with Loxos and a couple small booths of humans as well. You see horse traders and mages, and several odd merchants with wares that you don't recognize.

What would you like to do? Split up? If you come up with tasks for each person, I can give them some simple skill checks and we can keep on going, or if you'd like to roleplay through. I would lean toward simple skill checks, myself.

  1. Beranhond is going to make his way toward any religious group/individuals that he can find and see what information he can find out about the region, any dark forces in the region, and what they know about the orcs.

  2. Talathel, wanting to know a bit more about their hosts, sees if he can find a group of beasts passing around some liquor. He assumes that given their large stature, the Loxo will have a strong drink. What better way to find out more about their culture than to get drunk with them.

Lailsan rolled her eyes, and went to see if they had any food.

  3. Nym watches Beranhond and Talathel go off on their own. She then looks to Darvin, shrugs, and heads toward the merchants to see their wares.

  4. Darvin watches his companions shuffle off and then finally snaps out of the daze he has been in for the majority of the trip. He watches Nym walk away and then says, "Hey Nym! Wait, for me." And hurries after her.

  5. Beranhond: In talking to other religious leaders, Beranhond finds out that though dark forces are often temporary visitors to the Shaar, there are no permanent strongholds of evil in the area, though several of them express concern that an ill wind blows and that may change soon. You are urged to camp at the rendezvous for the night, because at the evening campfire every night, there is a very important ceremony where prayers and requests are offered up to the gods. Perhaps you can find your answers there.

Talathel: Can I get a diplomacy and an appraise roll from you?

Nym and Darvin: Is there anything in particular you're looking for with the merchants, or just wanting to see what they have? Please give me an appraise and a perception check.

  6. Beranhond is certainly interested in the ceremony and assures them that he will make it. On his way back he wants to keep an eye out for any other non-loxo visitors, particularly any from distant parts of Faerun.

  7. If everyone other than Beranhond could please give me your checks, I will keep going. Thanks.

Nym absent-mindedly examines the wares of different merchants. She's much more interested in spending a bit of time off the ship and away from the others with Darvin than she is interested in buying anything.

  10. Darvin and Nym: You find the wares to be rather mediocre, and notice among the weapons some oddly shaped shuriken and a good variety of bolas. There seem to be quite a lot of potions shops selling everything from healing potions to love potions to potions of instant death to the unwary. At one point, Nym and Darvin find themselves at a stand for love potions and aphrodisiacs where a human merchant offers to show them how the potion works.

  11. Talathel: It seems like you were just kind of biding time as well, so I will go ahead and advance the plot for you.

Talathel finds, like Darvin and Nym before him, that quite a few of the shops specialize in potions and elixirs. There is, unfortunately, little variety in the the alcohols present, mostly gin and beer. One thing that Talathel discovers is several merchants with flasks that they claim are bottomless, refilling their liquid as soon as they are emptied. To Talathel's dismay, most of the flasks have very low quality liquor.

  12. Talathel appreciated whatever made the flasks refill themselves, but he was not pleased with the liquor. It seemed quite dull. He had drained a flask and felt nothing. If the Loxo weren't that much bigger than him, he would have told them he thought the species was sort of pathetic for concocting something so weak.

Instead he returned the flask to the vendor. "No thanks, I have my own. Much stronger stuff in it." He shuffled off into the crowd in search of some entertainment.
