Eric sprinted down the streets, his pencil case clutched in his hand as Nym and Angel followed behind.
"Thy doom is at hand undead scum, I shall strike down axe upon thy head and send you back to the netherworld from which you came." Eric shouted as they ran down.
"I'm sorry." She said to Nym. "He's impossible when he gets like this. He's supposed to be solely managerial and clerical. His mother was a barbarian and his father a low level priest, so he's got some oddities."
"Eric the Red Hamersmith Thunderdor shall show you the true meaning of power!"
Angel just sighed again as several pedestrian stopped and stared in shock.

The scene at the pier stood in sharp contrast to the beauty of the day. More undead had climbed from the ocean and the small patrols were hard pressed on all the sides.
"What are we to do? There must be a dozen of them!" Angel said, her eyes enlarged, and her hands clutching the blunted sword.

  1. There are twelve skeletons scattered, three surrounded each guard who is slowly losing ground.

  2. I didn't get an email again for the first post, but I did for the comment!

  3. "We have at and hope we don't die before your friends come with more guards," Nym replied quietly, raising her staff.

I'm going to center Tune of Ice and Wind on whichever guard looks worse for wear. It only targets enemies in the burst, and it is an area burst 1 within 10 squares.

  4. I'm also going to stay at max range from the undead to stay as safe as I can.

  5. The skeletons, showed, continue to strike at the halbediers. Fortunately, your timely arrival allowed the middle hard who had been taking the most beating a moment of reprieve.

Eric, freed of his desk, charged into the fray and swung his pencil case at an offending skeleton.

  6. Nym's attention briefly wandered to Eric as he attacked the skeleton, and she wondered if he'd survive this. Her mind quickly returned to the task at hand, and Nym moved forward a bit, aiming a spell at the halbedier she'd aided. "STEP BACK!" she yelled to him, pleased when he complied.

    Knack for Success, Minor Action
    Target: the halbedier
Effect: Allows him to shift two squares (out of the middle of the skeletons and my attack).

A dark smile spread across Nym's face as she thrust her staff skyward, calling down streaks of blinding light onto the three skeletons who the halbedier had escaped.

Nym blinked as the lights impacted the skeletons. A moment later, the sound of the lights rocketing toward the earth caught up with them, causing a deafening boom that caused several nearby windows to shatter. Nym's smile turned into a laugh, her ears ringing from the sound.

  7. The halbedier, noticing his chance to escape, quickly dashed backward and behind another halbedier.
"Into position!" The lead one shouted. The third halbedier moved backward, taking a defense stance, and then swung heavily at the skeleton.
The skeletons, showing heavy damage after the sustained magical barrage slowed in their movements.

  8. Nym teleported to behind the halbediers (Spacial trip - Move Action) before sending another volley of arcane light onto the skeletons. Nym sighed, knowing this spell was not quite as impressive as her last, but it would still do the job.

If any of the halbediers looks to be in particularly bad shape, I'll use Revitalizing Incantation (minor action) on them, which allows them to spend a healing surge and also gives them temporary HP equal to their healing surge value.

    Blazing Starfall, At Will Attack
    Area burst 1 within 10
    D20+11 vs Reflex

I'd like to aim wherever I'd hit the largest concentration of skeletons - how many would this be? I'll roll for nine, since that's the max this spell could hit, and you can just use the first however many I can hit.

    Skeleton 1: 12+11=23

    Skeleton 2: 10+11=21

    Skeleton 3: 13+11=24

    Damage: 1D4+8 radiant damage
    3+8=11

  9. Nym's attack sent five of the skeletons to the ground. The halbediers centered on them as Eric, surprisingly still alive, continued to deal minimal damage with his pencil case.

The halbediers cheered, but as the skeletons hit the ground they burst sending bone fragments about.

  10. My reflex is 19, so they all missed me. What happens to the three halbediers, Eric, and Angel, and what do the remaining four skeletons do? That will influence what Nym does next.

  11. The exploding skeletons are easily avoided by the halbediers, Eric, and Angel (Pathetic rolls) and the remaining skeletons strike at the thre three halbediers while Angel moves into a flanking position, trying to protect Eric.

  12. Nym couldn't help but smile. "Five down, seven to go," she thought, aiming her next spell at the three skeletons closest to Eric and Angel.

  13. The rest of the battle raged quickly and furiously as Nym's magic helped to lay waste to the skeletons emerging from the water. It only took another thirty minutes before the waves of skeletons were undone and only minor wounds had been inflicted upon the guards. Nym was surprised that even Eric the crazed clerk had managed to live.
